A contract torn up in the middle of the window

Mitchel Bakker and Atalanta have simply called it quits. The Bergamo club announced on Tuesday that both sides had agreed to end the Dutch left-back’s contract by mutual consent, which on deadline day left him with no club and no deal to walk into.

The statement, polite to the end
Atalanta wrapped the exit in velvet. “Atalanta BC can confirm that the Club and Mitchel Bakker have agreed by mutual consent to terminate the player’s contract,” the club said. “The Percassi family, the Pagliuca family and everyone at the Club wish Mitchel all the best, both professionally and personally, for the next chapter of his career.”

Bakker himself said nothing.
Paris, Leverkusen, Bergamo, and now what?
The Dutchman has got around. Paris Saint-Germain, then Bayer Leverkusen, then Italy.
Same pattern at every stop. A handful of appearances, never quite the status. He is a free agent in early September now, which for a player in his position is not the worst spot to be in. Any club can sign him whenever they like, window open or shut.
