Leeds United sit third in the Premier League with eight points. Crystal Palace are 16th with three.
Five points separate the two clubs after four rounds, already a decent gap for a promoted side against an established one. The pre-season script has been torn up.
The Peacocks are unbeaten in three league games, with two draws and a win. And that win was a proper battering.
Leeds thumped Newcastle 4-1 at Elland Road on September 14, doing most of the damage before half-time. Ao Tanaka opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a deflected strike.
Crystal Palace, by contrast, have won just one of their four league matches. The London club have seen manager Oliver Glasner depart for Nottingham Forest, with full-back Daniel Munoz following him.
The injury list is a heavy burden for the Eagles. Five players are ruled out before the trip to Yorkshire, including one through suspension.
Elland Road has also been a tough place for visiting sides this season. Newcastle found that out the hard way less than a week ago.

The previous match says plenty about Leeds right now. Newcastle and Leeds went into their meeting with identical records, five points apiece after three matches.
That 4-1 result flipped the picture in one night. Elland Road watched its side jump into the top half of the table.
Leeds keep pushing in the top half 
Eight points from four matches put Leeds on the provisional Premier League podium. Few expected them to be there by mid-September.
Their current run shows real steel. Three league games without defeat, two draws and one emphatic win.
The 4-1 against Newcastle is the best marker so far. The Peacocks took control from the first whistle before Tanaka struck shortly after the half-hour.
Their attack is being led by a player not many fancied to do much. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, signed on a free transfer in August 2025 after a three-goal season with Everton, has become the main scorer for the promoted side.
Two absences need noting for this home fixture. Joe Rodon has a thigh problem and Mateo Joseph has a knee issue, while Ilia Gruev remains a doubt with knee discomfort.
Squad depth is still the limit of the project over a full season. In this match, though, the available group is miles stronger than the opposition’s.
The Calvert-Lewin gamble sums up the club’s approach in the market. Brought in on a free in August 2025, the striker had just finished a 26-match Premier League campaign with Everton that brought three goals.
Thirteen months on, he is the focal point of the attack for the promoted side. Not many saw that coming at the time of the deal.
Their home form is the other pillar of this early-season surge. Elland Road produced the standout performance of round four with that 4-1 win.

Crystal Palace head north with five players missing 
One win in four, three points on the board, 16th place: Palace’s start has been plain enough. They are floating around the wrong end of the table.
Oliver Glasner’s move to Nottingham Forest has changed the mood at Selhurst Park. Daniel Munoz followed his manager to the City Ground, removing a key right-sided wing-back from the picture.
The injury list makes this trip even more awkward. Jean-Philippe Mateta has a thigh problem, Dean Henderson has an ankle issue, Ismaila Sarr is out with a groin injury and Chadi Riad has a knee problem.
Add one suspension to that and the picture gets worse. Axel Disasi will not be available in central defence.
Eddie Nketiah is also a doubt, which could leave them even lighter up front. Missing both Mateta and Sarr strips the Eagles of their two biggest sources of chaos.
That means caution is the only sensible approach at Leeds. To get anything from Elland Road with five potential starters missing would be some effort.
Palace did, at least, get a few deals done over the summer. Adam Wharton stayed at Selhurst Park despite interest from Manchester City and Liverpool.
Dean Henderson also signed a new deal with the Eagles. His ankle injury, though, rules him out of this one.
Jean-Philippe Mateta is expected back after the international break. That makes this about the worst possible time to meet a side in full flow.
Daniel Munoz’s move to Nottingham Forest has already shown up on the pitch. The Colombian completed his first 90 minutes in his new colours at the City Ground.

Our prediction: Leeds United to win
Leeds are unbeaten in three league games and just put four past Newcastle in front of their own fans. The promoted side are third in the Premier League with eight points, while their visitors have only three.
Crystal Palace travel without Mateta, Sarr, Henderson, Riad or the suspended Disasi, with Nketiah a doubt as well. Five confirmed absences in a squad that has won once in four games matters more than any talk of historical status.
The balance of power in this match is clear, and the price on a Leeds win still looks decent. We are backing Leeds United to take it.
Palace’s only real argument is the old pecking order, with Leeds still a promoted club. After four games, there is nothing in the data to support that view.
