Sacramento Kings vs Los Angeles Lakers: the NBA’s second-worst defence against Doncic at 36 a night
Sacramento are 0-5 and allowing 126.8 points a game, 29th in the league. Their closest result so far was an eight-point home defeat to Portland on 23 October, and their most recent was a 132-120 loss in New Orleans to a Pelicans side that hadn’t won a game.
The Lakers visit Golden 1 Center on Wednesday 4 November, tip-off 10:00pm ET. They’re 4-2, with wins over Golden State, the Clippers twice and Utah, and Luka Doncic is scoring 36.0 points a game.
The schedule complicates the picture for Los Angeles. They host Toronto on Sunday and Miami on Monday, a home back-to-back, then fly north with one day off. Doncic already sat out the second night of a back-to-back on 28 October with back tightness.
Sacramento’s week is no gentler. The Kings were in Memphis on Saturday, play in Dallas on Monday and come home on one day of rest, with Keegan Murray, Dylan Cardwell, Maxime Raynaud and Ben Simmons all out.
The Lakers won the season series 3-1 last year, including 127-120 at Golden 1 Center in October 2025 and 128-104 in March 2026. Sacramento’s one win was 124-112 at home in January. This is the first meeting of the new season.
I’d been ready to be patient with this Kings team after the first two defeats. Five games in, the defensive numbers aren’t a slow start any more.
Sacramento Kings: 25 turnovers in New Orleans and a frontcourt down to Sabonis and Achiuwa
Darius Acuff Jr. had 34 points and 12 assists in New Orleans on 29 October. Sacramento still lost by 12, turned the ball over 25 times, and Domantas Sabonis gave it away seven times on a night he also had 15 rebounds and seven assists.
Zach LaVine leads the team at 26.0 points on 50% shooting. Acuff, a rookie, averages 24.0 points and 6.6 assists, but he’s shooting 37.8% from the field and 22.2% from three, which makes him easy to play under screens.
Sabonis is averaging 17.0 points, 16.2 rebounds and 7.2 assists on 71.4% shooting. Behind him the bigs are thin: Murray (ankle) and Cardwell (calf) were both due for re-evaluation around 6 November, Raynaud (knee) around 10 November, and Simmons is recovering from surgery on a torn right Achilles.
De’Andre Hunter has been the most efficient shooter, 13.0 points and 52% from three. Malik Monk hasn’t found anything: 2.8 points a game on 20.8% shooting across four appearances. Precious Achiuwa has started up front and averages 13.8 points and 6.2 rebounds.
The scores against them tell the story: 121 at the Clippers, 128 to Portland, 123 to Memphis, 130 in San Antonio and 132 in New Orleans. Sacramento score 110.2 a game, 23rd in the league, and haven’t scored more than 120 in any of the five.
Doug Christie’s side do get one thing on Wednesday: a full day of rest at home before a visitor on its third game in four nights.

Los Angeles Lakers: Doncic and Reaves at 60 points between them, Kessler finishing everything
Doncic is averaging 36.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.3 assists on 48.4% shooting and 39.6% from three. He scored 37 in Golden State on Friday, a 112-95 defeat in which the Lakers let a 25-point lead go and Stephen Curry finished with 31.
Austin Reaves adds 24.4 points on 56.9% shooting and 48.1% from three. Between them, the two guards produce around 60 points a night, and Sacramento’s perimeter defence has no answer for one of them, let alone both.
Walker Kessler has barely missed: 12-for-12 on his debut against Golden State, 75.0% from the field overall, 14.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. Against Sabonis, who shoots 71.4% from the field, those blocks matter.
The weak spot is turnovers. Doncic is giving it away 5.8 times a game, and Portland punished that on 27 October with a 136-129 win at Crypto.com Arena. LeBron James is no longer on the roster, so the creation falls almost entirely on the two guards.
Ziaire Williams (left foot management) and Adou Thiero (knee) were both expected back around 1 November. Collin Sexton (12.0 points), Quentin Grimes and Sandro Mamukelashvili (10.2 each) fill out a rotation that has scored 125 or more in four of six games.
The 103-87 win at the Clippers on 28 October came without Doncic. That’s the result I’d point to if Los Angeles decide to rest him again on this trip.

Our prediction: Los Angeles Lakers on the handicap
No line had been posted for Wednesday at the time of writing, and the Lakers moneyline could open below 1.45. I’d play Los Angeles on the handicap instead, up to -6.5, at a price of 1.45 or better.
Sacramento have conceded 121 or more in every game and turned it over 25 times in their last one. Doncic and Reaves score 60 a night between them, Kessler is finishing three of every four shots, and the Kings are without three of their four natural bigs.
The fatigue is real: this is the Lakers’ third game in four nights, and they blew a 25-point lead in their last road game. But they also won by 16 at the Clippers without Doncic, and a Sacramento side shooting 22.2% from three through its leading rookie isn’t the opponent to punish tired legs.
in your pocket.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
