Inter Milan vs Napoli: five scored, one conceded, and Napoli already off the pace 
Two rounds of Serie A, six points banked, just one goal conceded: Inter Milan have started exactly as they meant to go on. Napoli are already three points adrift.
Kick-off is set for Saturday, 5 September at 18:00 local time at the Giuseppe-Meazza stadium. This third-round clash pits second against tenth.
The Nerazzurri opened with a no-nonsense 4-1 win over Monza. Then came a 1-0 grind at Cagliari, a very different kind of job.
Napoli also began well enough with a controlled 2-0 win in Genoa. Since then, it’s gone south quickly: a 1-2 home defeat to Como at the Diego-Armando-Maradona.
That slip costs them three points in the table, but it also says plenty about the fragility in this Napoli side right now. Three scored and two conceded in two games, compared with Inter’s five and one.
Inter go into this one as the reigning Italian champions, having lifted the title last season. So this is a settled leader at home against a side still trying to find its feet.
The midfield battle will go a long way towards deciding the night. That is exactly where Inter have built their first two wins.
One side has conceded only once in two games. The other has scored three. The numbers do plenty of the talking before a ball has even been kicked.
Six teams have six points after two rounds of Serie A. Inter are in that leading group. Napoli are not.
Inter Milan are moving along nicely 
Five goals scored, one conceded: Inter’s record after two matches is hard to argue with. Only Roma have a better goal difference in Serie A.
It’s the mark of a side that can win in different ways. The 4-1 against Monza showed the firepower. The 1-0 at Cagliari showed they can manage a tight one too.
That win in Sardinia deserves a mention. Cagliari had only conceded one goal at home since the restart, and it was Inter’s. Not many sides will leave there with three points this season.
Hakan Calhanoglu is the only player in the squad to have scored twice since the restart. The Turkey midfielder remains the balance point between winning the ball and making things happen.
Three others have also got on the scoresheet: Pio Esposito, Piotr Zielinski and defender Yann Bisseck. Spreading the goals across four different names makes life awkward for any back line trying to prepare.
Andy Diouf has delivered two assists from just one appearance, the best total in the division in that role. Nicolò Barella and Pio Esposito have one each.
That spread across the team is why Inter haven’t needed their main striker to collect six points. Lautaro Martinez is still waiting for both his first goal and his first assist.
The key against Napoli is that defence, which has only cracked once in two games. A Napoli attack averaging 1.5 goals a match will not get much room for error.

Napoli are still searching for a foothold 
One win, one defeat, three points: Napoli’s start to the season is well short of expectations. Tenth place after two rounds says as much.
The 2-0 win in Genoa pointed things in the right direction. The 1-2 home loss to Como wiped that feeling out fast.
Losing at the Maradona to a side of that level is a hard one to dress up. Napoli’s defence gave up two goals in one night, the same number Inter have conceded in two matches.
Como, the team that beat Napoli, are eighth with four points. The Lombardy club are unbeaten after two games, which takes a little sting out of Napoli’s failure, but not much.
Rasmus Hojlund, Kevin De Bruyne and Antonio Vergara have shared Napoli’s three goals since the restart. No forward has yet seized control of the attack.
De Bruyne has also supplied an assist, as have defender Amir Rrahmani and Antonio Vergara. Napoli’s attacking output is still spread thin, with nobody really dragging the side along.
The contrast with Inter is plain enough here: four different scorers for the Milan club, three for Napoli, but with two fewer goals overall. The home side come out on top across the board.
Going to the Giuseppe-Meazza with only three goals in two games is a dangerous bet. Napoli will need to sort out their structure first if they want to trouble the division’s meanest defence.
