AS Roma vs Atalanta: 8-0 against 3-1, two unbeaten runs built very differently 
Eight goals scored, none conceded after two rounds: this Roma side is a two-headed monster. They are flying in attack, locked down at the back and sitting top for good measure.
Atalanta have also started well on the road. Six points from six, three goals scored and a style that is still a nightmare for opponents to deal with.
On Saturday at 20h45 at the Olimpico, it’s a top-of-the-table showdown. Serie A’s sharpest attack goes up against a Bergamo side built to throw a wrench in Roma’s plans.
Both sides have taken six points from six, but in completely different ways. Roma have blown teams away, Atalanta have strangled them.
The Romans beat Fiorentina 4-0 at home, then repeated the exact same scoreline at Lecce. Two straight statements, and not a goal conceded.
Bergamo took a different route: a 2-1 win over Sassuolo, then a hard-fought 1-0 in Bologna. One-goal wins each time, in tight, controlled games.
That clash of styles is what makes the tactical battle so intriguing. A team scoring four goals a game against a defence that has let in just one in two matches.
Atalanta arrive after a clean sheet in Bologna, which says plenty about their ability to manage a result away from home. Roma, meanwhile, have not been troubled at the back yet.
The first goal could shape the whole night. Neither Roma nor Atalanta have dropped a single point so far.
Six teams are on six points after two Serie A matchdays. These two clubs are in that leading pack, alongside Inter, Juventus, AC Milan and Lazio.
Roma and Atalanta have conceded just one goal between them in four matches. The Juventus-AC Milan clash is the only other game this round with a comparable defensive record.

Two matches, two 4-0 wins: Roma are the only team in the league yet to concede while scoring eight. Top spot in the table makes perfect sense.
That output is built around one man. Donyell Malen has scored five of Roma’s eight goals and leads the Serie A scoring chart.
The Dutch forward is not doing it alone, though. Matìas Soulè, Rodrigo Mora and Niccolò Pisilli have all chipped in too.
That 4-0 hammering of Fiorentina looks even more impressive now, with the Tuscan side still without a goal and stuck near the bottom after shipping seven. Lecce, Roma’s other victims, sit 13th.
Paulo Dybala is the other major figure in this Roma start. The Argentine has three assists in two matches, the best return in the division.
Gianluca Mancini and Wesley have added one assist apiece. The Dybala-Malen link is carrying most of the threat.
At the other end, Mile Svilar has not been beaten since the season began. Back-to-back clean sheets against Fiorentina and Lecce have given Roma a rare level of defensive stability this early.
Still, hosting Atalanta is the first proper test for this side. Their previous opponents were 20th and 13th in the table respectively.

Atalanta keep winning, just not by much 
Six points from two games, three goals scored, one conceded: Atalanta are going about their business quietly. Fifth place reflects a goal difference that trails the teams above them.
The 2-1 win over Sassuolo got their home campaign rolling. The trip to Bologna then ended in a no-nonsense 1-0 victory.
Three goals in two matches leaves their attack a long way off Roma’s standards. What they lack in firepower, they make up for with relentless discipline out of possession.
That 1-0 in Bologna reads better with the context: Bologna have not scored a goal in two rounds and are stuck on zero points. Atalanta have yet to face an attack in any kind of rhythm.
Sassuolo, beaten 2-1 in Bergamo on matchday one, have since picked up three points against Torino. Both of Atalanta’s opponents sit in the bottom half.
Giacomo Raspadori, Lazar Samardzic and Nikola Krstovic have all scored once. None of the three has managed to back it up with a second.
Gianluca Gaetano and Nicola Zalewski share the two assists so far. The creativity is being spread around rather than driven by one clear playmaker.
Marco Carnesecchi has conceded just once since the season started, a record that stacks up with the best defences in Italy. The Bergamo keeper will be busy at the Olimpico.
The real issue for Atalanta is the limited attack against a team that has not conceded. Stopping Malen will not be enough if they keep averaging only 1.5 goals a game.
