In Madrid, the Rodri miss still stings. The Spanish midfielder has ended up with the enemy, Barcelona, while the middle of the park remains the one area Real have been unable to fix. Plenty thought the summer business was done after that setback. It isn’t anymore.
Jose Mourinho has piled the pressure on his own board too. After the friendly win over Ferencvaros (2-1), the Portuguese demanded a player who can do a bit of what Bernardo Silva does, meaning someone who can cover several roles in midfield, while backing the idea of a trimmed squad of around 20 players. The message has landed.

The tip-off from Cadena SER
Against that backdrop, Cadena SER, a major voice in Spain, has thrown a name at the Madrid hierarchy: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. And there is a clear distinction here. This is a suggestion from the broadcaster, not confirmed interest from Real in the Marseille midfielder.
The case, though, has legs. At 31, the former Bayern Munich and Tottenham man would bring steel, balance and experience to a midfield that, the station says, lacks bite. His price, relatively modest compared with the other options, is also part of the pitch.
A veteran already on other radars
Real are looking at several routes. The names of Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace) and Kees Smit (AZ Alkmaar) keep coming up, while Ayyoub Bouaddi appears to be heading for Manchester City. Hojbjerg, meanwhile, has not been waiting around for Madrid to call: Newcastle have already put him on their shortlist. The question is whether advice from the Madrid press will carry any weight at the top of the club.
