Barca are running out of patience
Barcelona have had enough. Frenkie de Jong has been nursing knee pain for several months now. The Dutch midfielder still has not recovered as hoped. And for the moment, he remains against having an operation.
According to Sport, the Catalan club believes conservative treatment has already had plenty of time since the World Cup ended. Club chiefs cannot understand why the player thinks the four-week window should only start from when he returned to training.

Surgery is on the table
That split in opinion is creating real tension inside the club. Barca point out that de Jong was already doing similar rehab work before he rejoined the group. So the club wants a decision, and fast.
In the boardroom, surgery looks like the cleanest way to sort the issue once and for all. The player, though, is still digging in his heels.
Flick is waiting on his midfielder
The saga is complicating Hansi Flick’s plans. The German coach wants to know when he can really rely on his No. 21. De Jong remains a key part of Barca’s build-up and their ball retention, and each week of uncertainty is another headache in their build-up to the 2026/2027 season.
