Another founding name walks away
Graeme McDowell will not be part of LIV 2.0. The 47-year-old Northern Irishman announced it Monday in a post on X, thanking the league for four years and saying he looks forward to the next chapter of his career. He joined LIV in 2022 and most recently played for OKGC.
McDowell is far from alone. Ian Poulter, Tyrrell Hatton and Tom McKibbin said Friday they will not return in 2027. Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia, David Puig, Abraham Ancer, Charles Howell III, Adrian Meronk, Louis Oosthuizen and Thomas Pieters are also leaving.

A league rebuilding in bankruptcy court
The backdrop is messy. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has said it will end its financial support for LIV, and the league is working through Chapter 11 proceedings. CEO Scott O’Neil has lined up funding for the new version, which plans a 10-event schedule in 2027, five in the United States and five abroad.
McDowell’s next step is unclear. The DP World Tour has said it will not grant membership to LIV players in 2027. His record gives him options on paper: 11 European Tour wins and four PGA Tour titles, including the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
