An integrity framework, with the courts still in play
The NBA announced partnerships with prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket on Monday, and the league is selling the move as a safeguard rather than a surrender. The agreements create what it calls an integrity framework, giving the NBA more say over which markets get offered on its games.
“Protecting the integrity of the game is our top priority,” said Scott Kaufman-Ross, the league’s head of media distribution and partnerships. He described the deal as a first step toward a framework for a category that is still taking shape.
The NBA is not first through the door. The NHL and MLB have already signed with both platforms, and the NBA has also widened its DraftKings agreement to cover prediction markets.

Critics and a pending Supreme Court question
Prediction markets remain a fight. Critics argue they blur the line between gambling and financial trading, and New York and New Jersey are pursuing legal action that accuses the platforms of running illegal sports betting. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to decide in the coming months whether to hear New Jersey’s case.
Kaufman-Ross said the league would “let the courts decide” on jurisdiction. Kalshi’s Adam Barrick called the announcement a significant milestone, while Polymarket’s Ari Borod said the partnership will bring fans closer to the game.
