Fulham vs Crystal Palace: a second trip to Craven Cottage in eight weeks Carabao Cup

Crystal Palace have won on each of their last four visits to Craven Cottage, most recently 3-2 in the Premier League on 5 September, when Mitchell scored twice. They go back there on Wednesday 28 October for the Carabao Cup fourth round, kick-off 7:45pm UK time on Sky Sports+.

The two clubs arrive in very different moods. Fulham have won their last two league games 1-0, at home to Hull and away at Coventry on Saturday, where Oscar Bobb scored ten minutes from time. Iwobi got the winner against Hull a week earlier.

Palace’s last win before Sunday’s game with Newcastle came against Nottingham Forest, 3-1 on 11 October. Since then they’ve lost 3-2 at Lyon in the Europa League, 5-0 at Brighton in the league, and drawn 2-2 in Istanbul against a Beşiktaş side that finished with ten men.

The schedule is also uneven. Palace hosted Newcastle on Sunday, their third game in seven days if the cup tie is included, and they play Hoffenheim in the Europa League on 5 November. Fulham had a free week between the Hull and Coventry games and go to Aston Villa on Saturday 31 October.

Alvaro Arbeloa is in charge at Fulham. Pierre Sage replaced Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park, and Glasner, now Forest manager, lost 3-1 on his return to south London on 11 October.

Fulham are around 1.91 to win in 90 minutes, with Palace and the draw both at 3.90. We think the home price is the right side of this one.

Fulham: two 1-0 wins, a full squad and Cairney back Fulham

Arbeloa said before the Coventry game that his squad was fully fit. Larsson has recovered from a groin problem and Cairney is back after a long knee injury, which leaves Arbeloa with almost the whole squad to choose from.

The one absence is Sessegnon, who’s serving a three-match ban after his red card against Hull. It hasn’t been confirmed whether that suspension covers cup games.

Fulham sit 13th with eight points from eight games. They drew 0-0 at Liverpool on 12 September and 1-1 at home to Manchester United eight days later, then lost 2-1 at Ipswich on 10 October. The attack has been the weak area. Gonzalo García, signed in the summer, hasn’t scored in the league since the opening weekend, although he has two goals in all competitions. King leads the division for touches in the opposition box with 48 and has two league goals.

The cup has been kinder. Fulham beat AFC Wimbledon 3-0 in round two, with Smith Rowe, Muniz and García on the scoresheet, and won 3-2 at West Ham on 15 September to reach this stage.

The summer brought Kusi-Asare, García and César Palacios in, and Diop, Harry Wilson and Raúl Jiménez out. Palacios scored in the 3-2 defeat to Palace in September, with King also on target that afternoon.

Crystal Palace: 17 league goals conceded and a manager under pressure Crystal Palace

Palace beat Lech Poznań 4-0 in the Europa League on 17 September and drew 0-0 at Leeds three days later, and they conceded in all four of their October games before Newcastle. Sage’s side then went into Sunday’s game against Newcastle 16th, with seven points from seven games and a goal difference of minus eight. They’d conceded 17 league goals, more than any other side in the division.

The 5-0 defeat at Brighton on 18 October hurt most. Sage said afterwards he felt “only one feeling, shame”, and his position has been questioned since.

The injury list hasn’t helped. Riad is out long-term with a knee injury, and Henderson (foot), Chilwell (knee) and Tomiyasu (calf) all missed the trip to Beşiktaş. Disasi is available again after serving his suspension and started against Newcastle, along with Mateta and McNeil.

There are goals in the side. Strand Larsen has four in all competitions, two of them in the 3-0 third-round win over Middlesbrough on 8 September. Pino scored against Forest and again in Istanbul, and Mateta scored in Istanbul after more than a month out.

Mitchell, scorer of two goals at Craven Cottage in September, has two league goals this season. Lacroix left in the summer, and Mingueza arrived on a free transfer. Fulham’s last win in this fixture came at Selhurst Park, 2-0 in November 2024, and Palace also knocked them out of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win at Craven Cottage in March 2025.

Our prediction: Fulham to win (1.91)

We’re backing Fulham. They’ve won their last two league games, they come into the tie with a fully fit squad apart from Sessegnon, and they’ve had an extra day’s rest while Palace play for the third time in seven days.

Palace’s defensive numbers are the main reason. They’ve conceded 17 league goals, let in five at Brighton and three at Lyon this month, and were without goalkeeper Henderson, Chilwell and Tomiyasu in Istanbul.

The head-to-head record goes against us, with four straight Palace wins at Craven Cottage. Three of them came before this season, though, and Sage’s side has conceded ten goals in its last three away games. Fulham to win at 1.91 is our pick.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.

We can’t say it enough: gamble responsibly. If you’re struggling to stay in control, don’t wait to seek help.
