Eels vs Panthers: Panthers aim to set the record straight 
The Panthers are coming off a rare defeat, a 14-12 loss to Brisbane. The Broncos shut them down in a trench war on round 20.
That does not change the Panthers’ standing as the benchmark side in this NRL, with 13 wins and 4 losses.
The Eels arrive fresh after a week off and will fancy a perfect scalp. But the balance of power heavily favours the visitors.
Thursday night kicks off round 21, and Penrith will want to erase that slip-up straight away. A trip to Parramatta is hardly a trap when you are this consistent.

Parramatta come in rested after their round 20 bye. The break arrives at a good time, coming right after the loss to the Roosters.
The Eels’ Achilles heel has not moved: consistency against the top teams. They can go from excellent to ordinary in the space of one game, sometimes one half.
Mitchell Moses is carrying the attack almost single-handedly. When the pace lifts, he does not have enough support and the offence jams up. Up front, Junior Paulo has to bring his power through the middle to generate go-forward. Without that contact-area dominance, Parramatta gets dragged under and starts leaking points.
Defensively, the Eels leave too many gaps through the middle. Against patient Panthers, every hesitation gets punished.
The Parramatta crowd will be loud from the opening whistle. But noise in the stands does not make up for a talent gap this big.

Nathan Cleary runs this side with surgical precision. His kicking game pins opponents back and grinds down defences.
The Panthers’ defence remains one of the stingiest in the competition. Conceding 14 points to Brisbane was not a collapse, just a bump in the road.
Dylan Edwards locks things down at the back and gets every set moving with authority. Isaah Yeo puts in a monstrous shift in the middle of the park.
The pack, led by Moses Leota and Liam Martin, sets the tempo through the contact. Blaize Talagi is growing into the halfback role and taking some of the load off Cleary in the build-up.
On structured plays, Penrith remain a well-drilled machine. Every penalty they win turns into field position and a chance to strike.
This core has won too many tight games to get rattled at Parramatta. When they land a punch, they almost always turn it into points.
