Dundee United vs Aberdeen: four unbeaten for Goodwin’s side as Nisbet returns to Tannadice Scottish Premiership

Kevin Nisbet has 13 goals for Aberdeen this season, but only four of them in the league. He scored again against St Mirren last Saturday, following up after his own penalty was saved, and leads the line at Tannadice on Saturday (3pm UK time).

The two clubs sit next to each other in the Scottish Premiership. Dundee United are sixth on 12 points from nine games, with three wins, three draws and three defeats and a goal difference of minus one. Aberdeen are seventh on 11, with three wins, two draws and four defeats and a goal difference of zero.

Jim Goodwin’s side are unbeaten in four league games. They drew 1-1 with Falkirk on 5 September, won 3-0 at St Mirren on 19 September, beat Hibernian 1-0 on 10 October and drew 1-1 at St Johnstone last weekend, scoring six and conceding two in that run.

Aberdeen won 3-1 against St Mirren on 17 October, a week after losing 1-0 at home to St Johnstone. Stephen Robinson’s side scored through Brad Lyons in the second minute, Nisbet from the rebound on 58 and Ayoub Mouloua on 72. Lyons went off at half-time with a knee problem.

Four of the last six meetings have finished with fewer than three goals, including 0-0 at Tannadice in February 2026 and 2-0 to Aberdeen in May. Aberdeen haven’t won in their last four visits to this ground.

Both teams play again on Wednesday, United at Celtic and Aberdeen at home to Falkirk.

Dundee United: every home league game under three goals and the same XI for three matches Dundee United

United’s four home league games have produced seven goals in total. They drew 1-1 with Rangers on 31 July, lost 2-0 to Dundee on 22 August, drew 1-1 with Falkirk and then beat Hibernian 1-0, with Daniel Bennie scoring the only goal.

That gives them one win, two draws and one defeat at Tannadice, with three scored and four conceded. Their bigger scores have come away from home: 4-0 at Kilmarnock on 29 August and 3-0 at St Mirren.

Goodwin has named the same starting XI for three matches running and may do so again. Walton keeps goal behind Rawlins, Esselink, Forbes and Ciubotaru, with Tait, Lyall Cameron and Iqbal in midfield.

Cameron’s 79th-minute equaliser at St Johnstone kept the unbeaten run going, after Josh Fowler had put the home side ahead on 21 minutes. Randall, Metsoko and Bennie are expected to form the front three.

Emmanuel Agyei (knee) and Mehdi Merghem (leg) are out and aren’t expected back until later this month.

United lost 4-0 at Hearts on 9 August and 3-0 at Motherwell on 2 September, and they’ve conceded two in four league games since.

Aberdeen: Nisbet’s 13 goals and a league attack that has scored ten in nine Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s league record is weaker than their season. They reached the League Cup semi-finals by beating Kilmarnock 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw on 12 September, a game in which Dan Happe was sent off on 57 minutes.

In the league they’ve scored ten in nine games. Away from Pittodrie they’ve won once, drawn once and lost twice, scoring five and conceding six. Four of those five goals came in one game, the 4-0 win at Motherwell on 15 September.

The other three away league games produced a 2-0 defeat at Dundee on 8 August, a 3-0 defeat at Celtic on 2 September and a 1-1 draw at Hibernian on 19 September. Two of the three finished under 2.5 goals.

Nisbet is the reference point up front, with Smith, Ronan and Olusanya behind him. Lyons is in the probable XI alongside Afeez in midfield, but his knee problem from the St Mirren game makes him a fitness doubt.

Kristers Tobers is out with a knee injury. Mayo and Knoester are expected at centre-back, with Cadden and Guinness-Walker at full-back and Muller in goal.

Aberdeen have conceded ten league goals, the same number they’ve scored. They also failed to score in three straight home league games between 30 August and 11 October.

Probable lineup Dundee United: Walton; Rawlins, Esselink, Forbes, Ciubotaru; Tait, Cameron, Iqbal; Randall, Metsoko, Bennie
Probable lineup Aberdeen: Muller; Cadden, Mayo, Knoester, Guinness-Walker; Lyons, Afeez; Smith, Ronan, Olusanya; Nisbet

Our prediction: Under 2.5 goals (odds 2.00)

All four of Dundee United’s home league games have finished under 2.5 goals, with seven goals across them. Four of the last six meetings between these clubs have also stayed under, and the 0-0 at Tannadice in February is the most recent example on this ground.

Aberdeen’s 4-0 at Motherwell is the outlier in their away record, and Nisbet’s 13 goals make him the likeliest source of a higher-scoring game. United have conceded two in four league matches, though, and both sides have a midweek fixture to think about.

Under 2.5 goals is available at around 2.00 to 2.10. We think the price undervalues how tight both teams have been in this fixture and at this ground.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your responsibility

Before placing a bet, simply check that gambling is legal in your country. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling

We can’t say it enough: gamble responsibly. If you’re struggling to stay in control, don’t wait to seek help.
