Dillon Radunz’s year is done. The New Orleans Saints offensive lineman was ruled out for the entire season on Sunday once the diagnosis came back from a workout. The verdict: a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

It happened Saturday at training camp. One routine rep, one knee buckling, and the whole season is gone.

A body the line could ill afford to lose

Radunz, 28, was heading into his second year in New Orleans and his sixth in the league. The plan was to lean on him for depth at both guard and tackle. Now the Saints are a useful piece short.

The resume holds up. A second-round pick by the Tennessee Titans out of North Dakota State in 2021, he has logged 69 games and 41 starts across the Titans and the Saints. Last year he started 10 of the 15 games he appeared in.

What happens next

The Saints staff has to rework the plan before the season kicks off. For everyone else fighting for a spot on the offensive line, the competition just tightened. For Radunz, it is a long road back.
