MLB: Red Sox summon Seth Martinez to steady the bullpen

Boston shuffles its pitching staff

One loss, one quick fix. A day after their nine-game win streak finally ended, the Red Sox reshuffled the back of their bullpen. Right-hander Seth Martinez is coming up from Triple-A Worcester. To clear the spot, lefty Raymond Burgos heads back down to the same club.

Small move on paper. It says plenty about the pressure Boston is carrying right now.

A team running hot

The Red Sox are not limping through some ordinary stretch. Before Saturday’s 7-3 loss to the Athletics, they had won 32 of their last 37. That is contender pace. At that speed, every arm counts, and steering a bullpen turns into a daily grind.

Martinez, 31, will pull on a Boston jersey for the first time this season. His career line reads 6-6 with a 4.00 ERA over 117 outings, split between the Astros from 2021 to 2024 and the Marlins in 2025. In Worcester this year, the ERA sat at 5.55 across 33 appearances.

Burgos back to Worcester

The man making way is Raymond Burgos. The 27-year-old lefty debuted for Boston on Friday and covered three innings across Friday and Saturday. His big-league resume is still thin: one inning for the Giants in 2024, then those two recent outings. Now it is straight back to Worcester.
