Detroit got this series off to the perfect start by coming from behind against Kansas City late on. Trailing for most of the game, the Tigers found a way to pull out a 4-3 win and make it five victories in their last seven. That kind of form is enough to keep them dreaming of a push into the wild-card race.

The Royals will feel they let one get away after squandering a game they looked to have under control. They need to move on quickly, but the job gets even tougher with Tarik Skubal lined up on the mound for the home side.

Detroit Tigers : Skubal as the main weapon

Detroit do not need to put up big offensive numbers to win. Over the past few weeks, the Tigers have leaned on sharp pitching and taken their chances when it matters, just as they did in the opener of this series.

Tarik Skubal sums up that identity perfectly. With an ERA of 2,83, the left-hander keeps cementing his status as the ace of the rotation. He limits hard contact, eats innings and gives his team a chance to play with the lead more often than not.

The bats probably will not need to do too much. If the Detroit Tigers can simply put Beck Way under pressure the second and third time through the order, a modest run total could be enough to take control.

Kansas City Royals: little room for error

The Royals let a good chance slip on Tuesday. Their rotation got them off to a strong start before the bullpen fell apart late, wiping out several solid innings of work.

Beck Way will try to keep his team in it for as long as possible. The right-hander has shown a few encouraging signs since arriving, but this is a very different test against a Detroit team playing with far more confidence since the break.

Offensively, Kansas City will need to make the most of the rare openings. Against Skubal, chances are usually thin on the ground, and the visitors will have to be ruthless when they do get a runner on base in Detroit.
