The Chicago Cubs did not so much win Thursday night as take it. Pete Crow-Armstrong dashed home on a throwing error in the 11th inning, and the Cubs edged the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 at Wrigley Field.

Crow-Armstrong singled to lead off the frame, then broke for third and watched catcher Brandon Valenzuela sail the throw past the bag. The MVP candidate never stopped running, sliding home with the winner.

Bregman forces the issue

None of it happens without Alex Bregman. With two outs and two strikes in the ninth, the veteran drilled a home run to tie the game and drag it to extra innings. It was the kind of swing that flips a night on its head.

The win was Chicago’s 11th walk-off of the season, and it kept the Cubs in position for the first National League wild card. Toronto, on the wrong end of the wildest ending, heads home to stew on it.
