Columbus locks in a young forward
Cole Sillinger avoided arbitration and signed a three-year, $13.875 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The deal, announced Saturday, runs through the 2028-29 season and keeps the restricted free agent in Columbus at a manageable number.
Sillinger filed for arbitration earlier in the offseason, and the two sides settled before a hearing forced the issue.

The contract carries an average annual value just under $4.63 million, a figure that hands the Blue Jackets cost certainty while Sillinger keeps growing into his role. Columbus has leaned younger over the past few seasons, and locking up a forward through his mid-20s fits that plan.
The deal also clears one item off the summer checklist as the club shapes its roster ahead of training camp.
