Chavarria signs for Chelsea
Chelsea have got their left-back. The Blues confirmed the signing of Pep Chavarria on Friday, with the Spaniard arriving from Rayo Vallecano on a deal through to 2031.
At 28, Chavarria is stepping up. He swaps a mid-table La Liga side for one of the heavyweights of English football. His first taste of the Premier League comes this season.

A move driven by Xabi Alonso
One man’s fingerprints are all over this one. Chelsea say Chavarria came highly recommended by Xabi Alonso, who wanted exactly that profile to reinforce his left flank. The club listened.
The player did nothing to hide how he felt. “It is a dream for me, because Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he said, thanking his family and promising to graft for the team. He links up with the squad at Cobham to prepare for the 2026-2027 campaign.
What it means for Chelsea
Depth in a targeted spot. That is the short version. The London club keep to their recent line, assembling a young, deep squad built for a season on several fronts. Chavarria brings La Liga miles and plenty of runway.
How much competition will he meet at Stamford Bridge? That is the open question. With his manager already in his corner, though, the Spaniard walks in with credit in the bank. Turning it into performances is the next job.
