Gourna-Douath heads for England
Transfer windows have a way of handing out fresh starts. According to Foot Mercato, Lucas Gourna-Douath is set to leave RB Salzburg for Hull City in the Premier League. The 23-year-old defensive midfielder is reported to be on the verge of a four-year deal, barring a late twist.
Nothing is signed yet. The direction of travel, though, looks clear.

A stop-start career
The name will ring bells in Saint-Etienne. A product of the academy there, Gourna-Douath was sold to RB Salzburg in the summer of 2022 for 15 million euros. A hefty fee for a player who had not yet turned 19. It has not quite gone to plan since. A loan at AS Roma came first, then a revival last season at Le Havre, where he clocked 15 Ligue 1 games in the back half of the campaign.
In Austria, he had drifted out of the picture. A permanent exit had become the obvious next step.
A bet on a revival
For Hull City the logic writes itself. They would be backing a young player already toughened by spells across several European leagues. For the player, the Premier League is both a test and a shop window.
At 23, the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges native still has plenty to prove. England could hand him the stage to finally kick on. All that is left now is tidying up the loose ends before the move goes through.
