Charlton Athletic vs Norwich City: 17th host 21st, and goals have been scarce at The Valley Charlton Athletic

Norwich are 21st in the Championship after five straight league defeats, and every one of them was by a single goal.

Their trip to The Valley kicks off at 12:30 UK time on Saturday 24 October, against a Charlton side four places above them and six points clear of the relegation zone.

Charlton haven’t won a league game in eight attempts. They’ve stopped losing at home, though: two wins and three draws at The Valley this season, with two goals conceded.

Nathan Jones’s side have drawn four of their last six league games, two of them 0-0 at home to QPR and Portsmouth. Philippe Clement’s Norwich have scored once in their last three.

The last three meetings between the clubs all finished 1-0 to Norwich: at The Valley on 21 March, at Carrow Road on Boxing Day 2025, and at The Valley in January 2022.

Under 2.5 goals is available at 1.90, and Charlton or the draw at 1.67.

Charlton Athletic: eight without a win, two goals conceded at home all season Charlton Athletic

The last six league results read: 0-0 with QPR, 0-0 with Portsmouth, a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff, 1-1 with Bristol City, 2-2 at Burnley and a 2-0 defeat at Watford last weekend.

The two defeats came at Cardiff and Watford, both of them below Charlton in the table. On their travels over the last ten matches, Charlton conceded 2.83 goals per game.

At home it’s the reverse. Across the same ten-match stretch, their games at The Valley averaged 0.75 goals in total, and they let in 0.25 per game.

Their best result of the season is still the 1-0 win at West Ham on 22 August. A 1-0 home win over Preston followed, and they haven’t won a league game since.

Jones has more options in attack this week. Sonny Carey, Harvey Knibbs and Charlie Kelman are in contention to return, and Nathaniel Chalobah and Matty Godden are close. Collins Sichenje is out for the season with a knee injury, and Rob Apter is also injured.

At Watford they created 1.17 expected goals and lost 2-0. Over their last ten matches, Charlton failed to score in four.

Norwich City: five one-goal defeats in a row, and no Toure Norwich City

Clement’s side lost 4-3 at Middlesbrough and 4-3 at home to Bolton, then 2-1 at Swansea, 1-0 at home to Southampton and 1-0 at home to Portsmouth.

Before that run they beat Birmingham 2-1, and Birmingham haven’t lost a league game since.

Mohamed Toure, their top scorer, is out, and so is Kenny McLean. Norwich have 17 league goals in 11 games, but only one in their last three.

Clement could rework the attack. Paris Maghoma and Mathias Kvistgaarden are the options behind the striker and at centre-forward.

Away from Carrow Road over their last ten matches, Norwich conceded 2.6 goals per game and failed to score in 40% of them. That includes a 5-0 defeat at Manchester City in the League Cup.

The league defeats have been tighter than that number suggests. None of the five was by more than a goal, and the last two were both 1-0.

Probable lineup Charlton Athletic: Okonkwo; Ramsay, Koumetio, Jones; McNamara, Skipp, Coventry, Mesik; Campbell, Grant; Kelman
Probable lineup Norwich City: Grimshaw; Stacey, McConville, Cordoba, Chrisene; Wright, Mattsson; Brooks, Maghoma, Schwartau; Kvistgaarden

Free Football Prediction: Charlton Athletic vs Norwich City

Our prediction: Under 2.5 goals at 1.90

I’m siding with a low-scoring game. Charlton’s home matches over their last ten averaged under a goal, and Norwich arrive without their top scorer, having scored once in three.

Norwich’s away games have been open, and that’s the risk with this pick. Still, four of Charlton’s last six league games were draws, two of them goalless, and the last three meetings between these sides produced one goal each.

Under 2.5 at 1.90 is the bet. A 1-0 either way or a 1-1 would cover it, and I’d lean towards the draw.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
