Celtic vs Aberdeen: the champions are rolling, and the Dons are already under pressure 
Celtic host Aberdeen on Wednesday, 2 September at Celtic Park, with kick-off at 19:45 local time, which is 20:45 in France. The Bhoys head into round five with three wins from three in the Scottish Premiership.
Eight goals scored, two conceded: no other side in the division can match them at either end of the pitch. The defending champions start with a serious cushion of confidence.
Aberdeen arrive in far less comfortable shape, with just three points on the board. The 2-1 win over Hearts on opening day has been followed by two defeats, 2-0 at Dundee and then 0-1 at home to Rangers.
Recent history in this fixture hangs heavy over the game. Celtic are on a run of six straight league wins over the Dons, scoring 18 and conceding four across that stretch.
A trip to Celtic Park has become close to a lost cause for Aberdeen. Twelve of their last 13 visits have ended in defeat, the only exception a 2-2 draw in October 2024.
There is, though, one detail that softens the picture. Celtic were dumped out in dramatic fashion in the Champions League play-offs, thrashed 5-1 in the second leg by LASK Linz after winning 3-0 in the first and leading 1-0 in Austria.
They answered immediately with a 2-1 win over Falkirk the following week. The question is whether that European setback has left any mark.
Celtic: the best attack and the best defence in the division 
Martin O’Neill has the strongest attacking record and the strongest defensive record in the Scottish Premiership after three games. Eight scored and two conceded tells its own story.
That solidity has carried over into cup football too, with a 4-0 win at Dundee United in the second round of the Scottish League Cup. The draw then handed the Bhoys a third-round clash with Rangers.
The only real setback this season has been in Europe. Leading 4-0 on aggregate against LASK Linz before losing 5-4 over the two legs will linger as one of the club’s sorest nights in recent memory.
Camilo Duran has stepped up since then. The summer 2026 signing bagged a decisive brace against Falkirk in the absence of Kasper Hogh.
The treatment room is still busy: Alistair Johnston, Jota and Reo Hatate are ruled out, while Callum McGregor and Hogh remain doubts. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain filled in in midfield alongside Mika Baur and should keep his place.
Those absences have not stopped Celtic from stringing together three straight league wins. The squad depth is more than enough to handle a midweek test like this.

Aberdeen: just one goal in their last two league games 
Three points from three games is a thin return for a side that expected more. Their last two outings have ended in defeats without scoring.
Stephen Robinson did at least get the season moving in positive fashion. The 2-1 win over Hearts on opening day is still the benchmark for Aberdeen so far.
The League Cup also gave them something to build on, with a clean 3-0 win over Dundee in round two. The contrast with the 2-0 league defeat to the same side only days earlier says plenty about the inconsistency of the Dons.
Kevin Nisbet is carrying the attack almost on his own. The striker has nine goals in eight matches in all competitions since the restart.
Around him, four players are out. Bradley Lyons, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Kristers Tobers and Kusini Yengi are all unavailable.
So the schedule has landed at the worst possible time for Robinson. Trying to get something at Celtic Park with a depleted squad and only one win from three is a stiff ask.

The form gap is too clear to ignore. Celtic have conceded only two goals in three league matches, while Aberdeen have failed to score in their last two.
The six-game league winning run against the Dons has been built on heavy scores, with 18 goals scored and only four conceded. Aberdeen’s 12 defeats in their last 13 visits to Celtic Park point the same way.
Backing the straight home win offers little value at this price. Celtic to win by two or more is the play, with Duran in form and a defence that rarely gives an inch in front of their own fans.
