Vancouver Canucks vs Vegas Golden Knights: seven straight wins and a crease in crisis NHL

Seven. That is how many games in a row Vegas have won against Vancouver, and the Golden Knights have taken eight of the last ten meetings overall.

The two sides meet at Rogers Arena on Sunday 4 October, with puck drop at 9:00 p.m. ET, 6:00 p.m. local time. In Paris, that means 03:00 on Monday 5 October.

Vancouver arrive at 2-1-0 after a 4-1 win over Calgary on Saturday night. Vegas sit at 1-1-0, a 5-2 home win over Chicago followed by a 4-3 loss to Anaheim after falling 4-0 behind.

On paper, the Canucks have the better record. On the ice, the gap is enormous: one team reached Game 6 of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final, the other finished last in the league with a minus-100 goal differential.

The market knows it. Vegas are priced around 1.41 on the moneyline, which is too short to back in this format. The puck line tells a different story.

Vegas -1.5 has been available around 2.00. That is the play we want: back the far deeper roster, without paying the favourite tax.

Vancouver Canucks Analysis Vancouver Canucks

Saturday’s win over Calgary showed character, but the scoreline flatters Vancouver. The Flames led through two periods before the Canucks exploded for four unanswered goals in the third.

Liam Ohgren tied it, defenseman Elias Nils Pettersson scored the winner, and Leevi Merilainen made 23 saves to keep the game alive until the offense woke up. A good night, but a night spent chasing.

The earlier games tell the same story of fragility. In their October 1 meeting with Edmonton, the Oilers scored four times in the first period and outshot Vancouver 14-2 in the opening frame.

The injury list is heavy. Thatcher Demko is on injured reserve with a hip injury, Filip Chytil is out with a shoulder injury, and Jake DeBrusk has been dealing with an illness.

Without Demko, the crease belongs to Merilainen and Kevin Lankinen. Neither has the profile to stand up to a Vegas attack that can roll three scoring lines.

There is talent here. Marco Rossi has three goals already, and Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser remain dangerous finishers, but this is also the second half of a back-to-back for a thin roster.

Vegas Golden Knights Analysis Vegas Golden Knights

The Anaheim loss showed both faces of Vegas. Sloppy enough to fall 4-0 behind, dangerous enough to turn a dead game into a one-goal finish.

The opening night was the other face. A 5-2 win over Chicago at home, with the kind of control that a team fresh from a Stanley Cup Final run should produce against weaker opposition.

The depth is the weapon. Jack Eichel centers Ivan Barbashev and Mark Stone, William Karlsson works with Brett Howden and Mitch Marner, and Tomas Hertl anchors a third line with Trevor Connelly and Victor Olofsson.

Karlsson just signed a two-year, $13.5 million extension this week, a sign of stability in a group that knows how to win. Stone has been driving play as well as anyone on the roster in the early going.

The blue line adds Rasmus Andersson and Noah Hanifin to Shea Theodore and Brayden McNabb. That is a lot of puck-moving quality against a Vancouver forecheck that will be running on tired legs.

The crease is the one change from last season. Akira Schmid left for Florida in July, and Carter Hart and Adin Hill now share the net.

Probable lineup Vancouver Canucks: Merilainen or Lankinen (not confirmed); Rossi – E. Pettersson – L. Karlsson; Ohgren – Cotter – Boeser; O’Connor – Raty – Gallagher; Bains – Sasson – Lekkerimaki; Buium – Hronek; Oleksiak – Willander; E.N. Pettersson – Schenn.
Probable lineup Vegas Golden Knights: Hart or Hill (not confirmed); Barbashev – Eichel – Stone; Howden – W. Karlsson – Marner; Connelly – Hertl – Olofsson; Gatcomb – Dowd – Bowman; McNabb – Theodore; Wotherspoon – Andersson; Lauzon – Hanifin.

Free NHL Prediction: Vancouver Canucks vs Vegas Golden Knights

Our prediction: Vegas Golden Knights -1.5 (puck line) at around 2.00

Vancouver’s Saturday comeback deserves credit, but the Canucks now face a far deeper opponent with Demko and Chytil missing and only one night of rest. Vegas have beaten this team seven times in a row, and nothing in the current rosters suggests the trend is about to break.

The moneyline at around 1.41 is not worth the risk. The puck line is: Vegas have three lines capable of scoring, a power play stacked with Eichel, Stone, Marner and Hertl, and an empty-net window if they lead late.

A wide-open game favours the deeper team, and that is Vegas by a distance. We go with the Golden Knights by two goals or more, something like 4-2.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses, that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation, that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
