Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina – Free World Cup 2026 Prediction – June 12, 2026

Canada – Bosnia and Herzegovina: Historic clash opens Group B Description de l'image 2026 FIFA World Cup.svg.

It’s a landmark night in Toronto as Group B gets under way at the World Cup. Canada host Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday evening at BMO Field. For Canada, this first home match comes with huge expectation riding on it. Against a tight, well-drilled European side, Canada will need patience if they’re to get off the mark.

Canada are out to break their World Cup hoodoo Écusson de l' Équipe du Canada

Canada arrive for their home opener in buoyant mood after a superb run of eight straight matches without defeat in 2026. Head coach Jesse Marsch is, unfortunately, without his captain Alphonso Davies, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Even so, Canada can lean on Jonathan David’s finishing up front. Backed by a fired-up crowd, they will look to hit Bosnia hard from the off and play at a punishing tempo, even if history says Canada have a nasty habit of freezing at major tournament openers. The forwards will need to be ruthless to prise open a stubborn defence. A strong result would set the tone nicely. The whole country will be right behind them.

Bosnia and Herzegovina are aiming to spring a surprise in Toronto Écusson de l' Équipe de Bosnie-Herzégovine

Bosnia and Herzegovina, for their part, are back on the big stage after causing a stir in the European play-offs by knocking out Italy on penalties. Sergej Barbarez’s side are in good nick too, unbeaten in eight. They have been very solid at the back and, lately, rarely concede more than once in a match. There is still plenty of uncertainty over whether star striker Edin Dzeko, who is nursing a shoulder problem, will start, but the visitors will fancy Ermedin Demirovic to hurt Canada on the break and haul them home with a positive result from a tough trip to North America.

Likely lineups

Canada : Crepeau ; Johnston, de Fougerolles, Cornelius, Laryea ; Buchanan, Eustaquio, Kone, Millar ; David, Larin

Bosnia and Herzegovina : Vasilj ; Burnic, Gigovic, Muharemovic, Memic ; Celik, Basic, Bajraktarevic ; Mahmic, Demirovic, Bazdar

World Cup prediction Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia or draw

This Group B opener looks far tighter and far harder to call than the bookmakers are making out. Yes, Canada have home advantage in Toronto, but the pressure from the stands could be fierce and, at times, suffocating for the hosts. Add in the near-certain absence of Alphonso Davies and Canada lose their biggest threat for pace and incision, which should make life a lot easier for the opposition back line.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, meanwhile, have built serious steel through a gruelling qualifying campaign and know how to make life miserable for an opponent. Sergej Barbarez’s team are tough to break down and leave very little room through the middle. Against a Canada side that has never scored in a World Cup opener, Bosnia have every chance of shutting up shop and at least nicking a draw, if not pulling off the upset.

Before we get into it, a quick word on our predictions

  • What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the whole script flips.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks nailed on, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. At some point, that’s inevitable.
  • The sensible move is to keep things under control. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And above all, don’t chase losses. That rarely ends well.
  • A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much of your day, getting on your nerves or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist organisation. That’s what they’re there for.
  • At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and that it will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
  • Essential reminder: betting is forbidden for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast, leading to money problems, family tension and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.

No commitment from us

Our predictions are not a contract. They carry no legal weight. In plain English: you cannot use them to claim compensation if a bet goes wrong.

Information moves on

A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But then a team sheet changes, a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your role

Before you bet, check that wagering is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling first

We can’t say it often enough: gamble in moderation. If you struggle to keep control, don’t wait to get help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
