Braga vs Gil Vicente: four straight draws – this run has to end now 
Braga have not won a Primeira Liga match for four rounds now. The slump started back in May and it is still dragging on.
The 2-2 draw at Moreirense last weekend summed up the problem: ahead twice, pegged back twice. Fran Navarro struck early, only for the equaliser to arrive 60 seconds later.
Pau Victor restored the lead after the break, but Moreirense levelled again in stoppage time. One point earned in a game where three were there for the taking.
Gil Vicente, meanwhile, arrive with their first win already banked. Hector Hernandez converted a penalty in the 87th minute against Rio Ave, who had been down to 10 men since the 47th.
The Minho derby has a recent history that will sting the home crowd. Gil Vicente did the double last season: 1-0 in Braga in September, then 2-1 in the return meeting in February.
Braga still finished 2025-26 in fourth and have since booked their place in the Conference League play-offs. The balance of power has not really shifted.
Kick-off is Sunday at 20:30 at Estadio Municipal de Braga, on matchday two of the Portuguese league. These two know each other inside out; geography takes care of the rest.

Four clean sheets in five competitive matches to start the season. The only blip came in that trip to Moreirense.
That defensive discipline was enough to see off Dinamo Minsk in the Conference League, 1-0 on aggregate. The second leg ended 0-0 on Thursday, and Austria Vienna now await in the play-offs.
The real issue for Carlos Vicens is elsewhere. His side are scoring, but they are not protecting leads: blowing two advantages in one match is not a coincidence.
The injury list is not helping. Bright Arrey-Mbi came off hurt against Moreirense and remains a doubt, while Jean-Baptiste Gorby was already unavailable last week.
Sikou Niakhate and Adrian Barisic are still out too, both troubled by Achilles problems. That leaves the centre of defence with limited options.
Up front, Jonas Wind is still not considered fully fit after arriving from Wolfsburg this summer. Vicens is likely to lean on Horta, Victor and Silva to drive the final third.
One stat tempers the optimism: last season, Braga dropped points in nine of their 17 home league games, with eight wins, six draws and three defeats. Estadio Municipal is no fortress.

Gil Vicente finished sixth in Primeira Liga in 2025-26 and opened this campaign with a win. The 1-0 against Rio Ave was far from a statement, but it still brought three points.
Hernandez’s decisive penalty came in the 87th minute, against a side that had been down to 10 men for almost three quarters of the match. The attack still has plenty to prove.
That result ended a three-match league winless run that had stretched back to the end of last season. The Gallos had spent much of the first half of the previous campaign inside the top four under Cesar Peixoto.
Luis Pinto took over in June and won his first competitive match. He already knows today’s opponents too: he beat them in the Taaca da Liga final while in charge of Vitoria de Guimaraes.
The problem is on the road. Gil Vicente finished 2025-26 without a win in their final six away league matches, drawing three and losing three.
No fresh injury issues came out of the Rio Ave game. Pinto should be able to name a near-identical side, with the Caseres and Lausen double pivot set to do the dirty work in midfield.
Hernandez has surely played his way into the XI after scoring from the spot off the bench. Starting him looks the most sensible call for this derby.

Braga have kept clean sheets in four of their five competitive games this season. Gil Vicente, by contrast, have not won away from home in six league matches.
The Sports Mole statistical model makes a home win a 56.37% chance, with 1-0 the most likely scoreline. The bookmakers are on the same page, pricing Braga at around 1.68.
Braga have won 18 of the 34 league meetings between the clubs. Gil Vicente’s double last year was the outlier, not the rule, and the three points should stay in the Minho with the Archbishops.
