Boston Bruins vs Montreal Canadiens: Fowler’s hot streak against Boston’s 7-1-0 home record
Jacob Fowler has lost once in regulation all season. The Montreal goaltender is 8-1-1 with a .925 save percentage and a 2.16 goals-against average, and he made 26 saves in Toronto on Saturday as the Canadiens won 4-2 to stretch their point streak to ten games.
Thursday 12 November at TD Garden, 7:00pm ET, is the first of four meetings between the teams this season. Both had 25 points going into Sunday: Montreal at 11-3-3 and Boston at 12-4-1, level at the top of the Atlantic Division.
Boston are 7-1-0 at home and allow 2.35 goals per game, fourth in the league. As a team they’re saving .910 of shots, second best, while Montreal sit at .880.
Montreal are without Ivan Demidov (lower body, on injured reserve until around 14 November) and Mike Matheson (lower body, a similar timeline). Josh Anderson missed time for personal reasons and Sam Montembeault is on injured reserve, both with estimated returns around 10 November.
Boston host Florida on Sunday and then have three days off. Montreal host Minnesota on Tuesday. Last season the series finished 2-2.
Boston Bruins: 7-1-0 at TD Garden and the fourth-best goals against in the league
David Pastrnak leads Boston with 20 points, eight goals and 12 assists. His 428th goal, scored against Chicago on 31 October, moved him past Patrice Bergeron into third place in franchise history.
The goaltending is shared. Jeremy Swayman is 8-3-1 with a .913 save percentage, and Michael DiPietro is 4-1-0 at .925 after winning his fourth straight start in Pittsburgh. Swayman stopped all three Vegas shooters in the shootout on 2 November, a 3-2 win.
The 6-2 win in Pittsburgh on 5 November showed how fast this team can turn a game. Boston scored three goals in 6:50 of the first period, and Pavel Zacha scored twice. Morgan Geekie has scored in three straight games.
James Hagens, with six goals and 12 points, went on injured reserve after a cross-check in that game and is expected to miss a few weeks. Matt Poitras has a broken nose and is day-to-day. Marat Khusnutdinov now centres Casey Mittelstadt and Elias Lindholm, and JJ Peterka, acquired from Utah for two first-round picks in June, has 11 points.
The special teams are average: a 19.6% power play (22nd) and a 76.8% penalty kill (16th). Boston win 55.0% of faceoffs, third in the league.

Montreal Canadiens: ten games without a regulation loss, but a 15.4% power play
Montreal are 8-0-2 in their last ten. Alex Newhook scored twice in Toronto, and Chris Kreider, who signed a one-year deal on 12 September after Anaheim terminated his contract, scored on a breakaway.
Lane Hutson leads the team in points with 16, 13 of them assists, and he has seven assists in his last five games. Cole Caufield has 11 goals on the season figures we’ve seen and five in his last five games.
Montreal’s underlying record is weaker than the streak. They allow 3.12 goals per game, 16th in the league, and their power play converts 15.4%, 28th. They’re outshot on average, 28.3 shots against to 27.6 for.
The absences of Demidov and Matheson take a right winger and a regular defenceman out of the lineup. Behind Fowler, Jakub Dobes is 3-2-2 with a .847 save percentage, so if the Canadiens rotate goaltenders, the gap between their options is large.
Montreal are 6-1-1 on the road. They went 48-24-10 last season and reached the Eastern Conference Final, where Carolina beat them in five games.

Our prediction: Boston Bruins to win (moneyline)
We’re backing Boston at home. The Bruins are 7-1-0 at TD Garden, they concede 2.35 goals a game to Montreal’s 3.12, and they’ll have had three days off.
Fowler is the main argument against us. He’s 8-0-1 in his last nine starts, and a goaltender in that kind of form can win a game on his own. We still think Montreal’s power play at 15.4% and the loss of Demidov and Matheson leave them short against a team that wins 55% of faceoffs.
No price was posted at the time of writing. We’d want Boston at no shorter than around 1.70, and we’d check whether Swayman or DiPietro starts.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
