Bologna vs Lazio: a 12-point home drop-off meets a Lazio already knocked out of the cup 
Bologna picked up 12 fewer points at the Dall’Ara than they did away from home in 2025-26. That was the biggest gap in any of Europe’s top five leagues.
That odd split sets the scene for the opening weekend of Serie A 2026-27, with Monday’s 18:30 CEST kick-off coming at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium. The game is being shown exclusively on DAZN in Italy.
Both clubs go into the season with a manager who was not around in May. Domenico Tedesco has replaced Vincenzo Italiano at Bologna, while Gennaro Gattuso has taken over from Maurizio Sarri at Lazio.
The pressure is heavier in Rome. Ninth last season, Lazio had to enter the Coppa Italia in round one and promptly crashed out to second-tier Mantova.
Gattuso summed up that first competitive outing in one line: a punch in the face. Two late goals sealed the exit.
Bologna are hardly flying in either. They have won just one of their last nine Serie A openers, including a 2-1 defeat to this same Lazio side four years ago.
Lazio’s last trip to the Dall’Ara did at least go their way, with Kenneth Taylor scoring twice in March. It’s one of the few positive memories they can take with them.
Bologna must fix their home form first 
Eighth in Serie A, Coppa Italia winners in 2025 and through to the Europa League knockout phase: the record Italiano left behind before heading to Beşiktaş is a strong one. Tedesco, then, has inherited a demanding job.
The biggest problem has a very clear address: the Dall’Ara. Only Pisa and Verona, both relegated, lost more home games than the Rossoblu last season.
The squad has also been heavily reshaped over the summer. Jhon Lucumi has joined Juventus and Santiago Castro has moved on to Roma, two departures that hit both the back line and the attack.
New arrivals Mikel Amondarain, Artem Dovbyk and Roberto Piccoli are all available for Monday’s opener. Dovbyk and Piccoli are competing to lead the line after Castro’s exit.
Out wide, Riccardo Orsolini remains the banker. Bologna’s top scorer last season, he has now hit double figures in Serie A for four straight campaigns and has just signed a new deal.
Pre-season did little to calm things, with only two wins from six and a loss at Brighton to finish. Nicolò Casale is the only fitness concern for Bologna.

Lazio are under the gun already, and it’s only mid-August 
One competitive match, one defeat. That is Lazio’s season so far, and it is not a pretty read. The loss to Mantova put Gattuso under immediate pressure.
The mood around the club only adds to the strain. The fans are boycotting, and Sarri’s messy exit still hasn’t been digested.
On the pitch, ninth place last season means no Europe for a second straight year. The league is the only stage Lazio get to use until May.
The transfer window has hit some key areas. Mario Gila has gone to Milan and first-choice keeper Ivan Provedel has joined Inter, while Davide Frattesi has arrived on a paid loan from Inter worth EUR5 million.
Danilo Doekhi and Alfonso Pedraza are also in the mix to start. Gustav Isaksen, Patric and Danilo Cataldi, who is nursing a groin issue, are all doubts.
The numbers tell the story up front. Isaksen and Pedro finished as Lazio’s joint top league scorers last season with five each. Petar Ratkov, who scored six in pre-season, and Tijjani Noslin are pushing for a place behind Boulaye Dia, who started in the Coppa Italia.
Probable Bologna line-up: Skorupski; Zortea, Vitik, Heggem, Miranda; Moro, Ferguson; Orsolini, Bernardeschi, Rowe; Dovbyk.
Probable Lazio line-up: Mandas; Marusic, Doekhi, Provstgaard, Pedraza; Frattesi, Rovella, Taylor; Noslin, Dia, Zaccagni.

Our pick: Both teams to score
Both defences arrive patched up at the same time. Bologna have sold Lucumi, while Lazio have lost Gila and first-choice keeper Provedel. The centre-backs on Monday night will be unfamiliar on both sides.
The most recent meeting at the Dall’Ara ended with Taylor scoring twice, and Bologna conceded more home goals than any non-relegated Serie A side last season. Add Orsolini’s return to form on one side and Gattuso’s need for a response on the other, and a cagey, low-event match looks unlikely.
Both sides should find a way through. Both teams to score is the bet that fits this Bologna-Lazio meeting best.
