Bodø/Glimt vs Borussia Dortmund: Arctic goals against the Bundesliga leaders
The last time these two met, it finished 2-2 in Dortmund. That was December 2025, the first meeting between the clubs, and it set the tone: neither side could keep the other out. Ten months on, the return comes in Bodø, and everything about the setting favours another open evening.
Kick-off at the Aspmyra Stadion is at 21:00 Paris time on Wednesday 14 October. It’s a small ground, a little over 8,000 seats, with an artificial pitch and a crowd that sits right on top of the play. Big clubs have struggled there before. Bodø/Glimt’s run to the last 16 last season included a 2-1 win at Atlético Madrid and a 2-1 win at San Siro against Inter.
Both teams arrive having just played. Bodø/Glimt beat Kristiansund 3-1 on Saturday. Dortmund were held 2-2 by Werder Bremen on Friday night, a stoppage-time header from Niclas Füllkrug denying them a fifth straight league win.
The opening night of the league phase couldn’t have gone more differently for them. Dortmund edged Villarreal 3-2 at Signal Iduna Park, with Serhou Guirassy scoring twice. Bodø/Glimt were beaten 5-0 at Bayern Munich, and they lost Odin Bjørtuft to a late red card on top of that.
So what’s the read? Home side brimming with goals, away side leading the Bundesliga but leaking a few. The bookmakers lean slightly towards Dortmund, around 2.05 for the away win against roughly 3.20 for Bodø. We think the result market is close to a coin flip. The goals market isn’t.
Here’s the key number: Bodø/Glimt have scored three or more goals in each of their last six home games. Not most of them. All six.
Bodø/Glimt: six home games, 20 goals scored, and a centre-back missing
Look at the home results since late July: 4-0 against Lillestrøm, 3-2 against Union Saint-Gilloise, 3-0 against NEC Nijmegen, 4-2 against Rosenborg, 3-2 against Sandefjord and 3-1 against Kristiansund on Saturday. That’s 20 goals in six matches at the Aspmyra.
It’s also seven conceded in those same games. That matters for this preview. Kjetil Knutsen’s side attack in waves and accept that the back door will sometimes swing open. It’s the price of the system, and Knutsen, in charge since 2018 and tied down until 2029, has never pretended otherwise.
Not everything’s rosy. A 2-1 defeat at Brann on 20 September ended a nine-game winning run in the Eliteserien, and the 5-0 loss in Munich was a reminder that this side can be overwhelmed by elite pressing. Bayern were goalless at half-time that night, then scored five after the break.
The absences are the bigger problem. Bjørtuft serves his suspension after that red card in Germany, and there’s a list of injuries: goalkeeper Sjong, plus Riisnæs, Mikkelsen, Kitolano and Evjen are all reported out. That’s a lot of rotation options gone.
Can the defence cope? Probably not entirely. But the attack doesn’t need much encouragement. Andreas Helmersen and Ole Didrik Blomberg are expected to lead the line, with Jens Petter Hauge and Patrick Berg supplying from deeper. On their own pitch, this group creates chances at a rate few Champions League sides can match.

Borussia Dortmund: top of the Bundesliga with a defence that keeps letting teams back in
Thirteen points from five games and first place in Germany. On paper, Dortmund are flying. Look a bit closer, and the pattern is a side that wins plenty but rarely keeps things tidy.
The 3-2 win over Villarreal on matchday one is the perfect example. Dortmund led twice, Guirassy scored twice, including a penalty, and the visitors still got back into it, the second goal coming from a Guirassy own goal in stoppage time. The 3-2 win at Hoffenheim in early September followed a similar script.
Friday’s draw with Bremen was another one. Daniel Svensson and Nico Schlotterbeck had put Dortmund in control late on, before Füllkrug’s header in added time made it 2-2. Four of their last six competitive games have produced at least four goals. That’s not a coincidence. It’s a habit.
Schlotterbeck’s fitness is now the talking point. He’s listed as doubtful with an ankle problem, and Karetsas is a doubt through illness. Already confirmed out are Filippo Mané, Julian Ryerson, Carney Chukwuemeka, Christos Konstantelias, Jefferson Lerma and Emre Can. That’s a thin squad heading north with a league trip to Union Berlin three days later.
Up front, though, there’s no shortage of quality. Guirassy’s the obvious threat and he’ll fancy his chances against a reshuffled home back line. Maximilian Beier, whose run and cut-back forced the opening own goal against Villarreal, adds pace in behind.
Dortmund will score in Bodø. The harder question is whether they can stop Bodø/Glimt from doing the same, on a surface they rarely play on, without their first-choice defensive leader.
Probable lineup Bodø/Glimt: Not announced at time of publication. Expected attackers: Helmersen, Blomberg, Hauge.
Probable lineup Borussia Dortmund: Not announced at time of publication. Guirassy expected to lead the line; Schlotterbeck doubtful.
Free Champions League Prediction: Bodø/Glimt vs Borussia Dortmund
Our prediction: Over 3.5 goals (odds around 1.95)
Picking a winner here is genuinely tricky. Bodø/Glimt are excellent at home and Dortmund are the better squad, but neither has the defensive stability to control a game for 90 minutes. The 2-2 last December fits the profile perfectly, and the conditions in Bodø only make an open game more likely.
The numbers support four goals or more. Bodø/Glimt have averaged more than three goals per home game across their last six, while conceding in four of them. Dortmund have shipped two goals in three of their last six competitive matches, and their injury list is hitting the defence hardest, with Schlotterbeck doubtful and several squad players already ruled out.
Both sides will create. Both will concede. At close to even money, Over 3.5 goals is the angle we like best.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal — and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses — that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation — that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
