Zverev, the new king of Roland Garros and maybe the next king of Wimbledon?
Alexander Zverev has won his first Grand Slam at Roland Garros at 29, and Boris Becker is not stopping there. The German great, who knows better than most what it takes to win at Wimbledon with three titles to his name, has already backed his countryman as the clear favourite for the grass-court major.
The timing could hardly be better. Carlos Alcaraz is injured and out of Wimbledon, while Jannik Sinner, dumped out in a shock second-round exit at Roland Garros, is battling health issues that have raised plenty of questions. Sinner has said he will play a grass-court event just before Wimbledon to get ready, but his level remains a big unknown.
Becker, blunt with his predictions
Speaking to Eurosport, Boris Becker was clear: “For me, Zverev is now part of the ‘Big Three’ since Sunday night, alongside Sinner and Alcaraz. He has the potential to win more Grand Slams, and at 29, it’s the perfect age to do it. Is he suddenly the favourite at Wimbledon? For me, yes.”
Becker highlighted Zverev’s serve as a major weapon on grass: “With that serve, you’re already in the semi-finals. He has everything needed to win Wimbledon.”
One thing is certain, though: Zverev has never really shone at this tournament, never getting past the fourth round. Last year, he was knocked out in the first round by Arthur Rinderknech. But Boris Becker believes it strongly, and when Becker speaks, people in tennis listen.

What does that mean for bettors?
With Alcaraz out and Sinner looking unreliable, Wimbledon is suddenly open to a fresh batch of contenders. Zverev will be one to watch in the betting, as will home hope Jack Draper and Novak Djokovic, who is chasing yet another Grand Slam record. The odds could move fast depending on Sinner’s condition. Keep a close eye on it.
