BB Erzurumspor vs Samsunspor: two goals in five rounds against a run of three straight defeats 
BB Erzurumspor have scored just two goals across their first five Super Lig matches. That leaves them tied for the worst attacking return in the Turkish top flight.
Samsunspor, meanwhile, come in carrying three straight defeats. The game takes place on Sunday 20 September at 16:00, at Kazim Karabekir Stadium.
Both clubs have exactly four points after five matches, with identical records of one win, one draw and three defeats. The newly promoted side sit 16th, their visitors 15th.
The two sides have also conceded 11 goals apiece. The only real difference is up front, where the visitors have managed six goals to the hosts’ two.
Recent history points firmly towards Samsunspor, who are unbeaten in the last six meetings with three wins and three draws since September 2017. So there is no handy reference point for Erzurum at Kazim Karabekir.
This sixth-round clash is really about two separate problems: Erzurum need a goal, Samsun need to stop the slide. And the first looks a lot harder to solve.
The wider picture adds pressure on the newcomers: four points from 15 so far, three of them coming in a single match. Their only win remains the 1-0 victory over Konyaspor in early September.
BB Erzurumspor: a promoted side that have stopped scoring over three matches 
Serkan Ozbalta’s team began life in the top division with two heavy defeats, 3-0 at Amed SK and 4-0 at home to Galatasaray. Promotion, won by claiming the 1. Lig title last season, has been a rough ride from day one.
Their first point came at Genclerbirligi with a 1-1 draw, before their only win of the campaign. Eren Tozlu’s first-half strike was enough to beat Konyaspor 1-0 on 5 September at Kazim Karabekir Stadium.
That spark did not last. Last Friday, Erzurumspor went to Beşiktaş and came back with a 3-0 defeat, with Emirhan Topcu and Leandro Trossard doing the damage before the break and Yakup Kirtay adding an own goal in the 81st minute.
They are now without a goal in three matches this season. Two goals in five rounds is the core issue for a side that simply does not have the firepower of a settled top-flight club.
Tozlu, 35, has scored both of those goals on his own and is set to lead the line again. Behind him, the back five should stay the same, with Amar Gerxhaliu, Mustafa Yumlu, Nihad Mujakic, Orhan Ovacikli and Georgian full-back Guram Giorbelidze.
Unless there is a late scare, Ozbalta has a full squad to choose from, with no injuries or suspensions. That is about the only card he can play going into this one.
Kazim Karabekir Stadium remains the only ground where Erzurumspor have won this season. That result against Konyaspor is still their only positive marker ahead of Samsunspor’s visit.

Samsunspor: three defeats on the spin and an injury list that is starting to bite through the middle 
Samsunspor actually started well enough, taking four points from their opening two games. A 3-3 draw with Goztepe on 17 August came before a 2-1 win snatched at the last against Caykur Didi Stadium on 22 August.
The collapse began against Fenerbahce in a 2-0 defeat, then continued at Kocaelispor with a 1-0 loss. The worst was still to come.
Last Saturday, Corum Belediyespor came to the Samsun Yeni 19 Mayis Stadium and left with a 5-1 win. Jesus Ramirez and Logi Thomasson had both struck inside the first five minutes, one at either end of the pitch, to set things up for a wild afternoon.
A Cengiz Under brace before half-time turned the match, before Alexandros Kyziridis scored in the 69th minute and Ramirez added his second. Eleven goals conceded in five matches owe a lot to that one afternoon.
The contrast with last season is stark: seventh in the table after winning five of their last six matches, Samsunspor have kept none of that momentum. Thorsten Fink now has to reshape his side without midfield trio Afonso Sousa, Tanguy Coulibaly and Jaures Assoumou, all of whom are in the treatment room.
Up front, the German coach is also missing Fatih Kaya, who went off injured against Fenerbahce on 30 August and has not played since, as well as Elayis Tavsan, who is carrying a muscle problem. Still, they do have one strong angle: six meetings without defeat against Sunday’s opponents.
Samsunspor’s only two positive results came in August, with the 3-3 draw against Goztepe and the 2-1 win at Rizespor. Since then, they have not taken another league point.

Samsunspor, meanwhile, are unbeaten in the last six meetings between the clubs, with three wins and three draws since September 2017. Their 5-1 collapse against Corum muddies the defensive picture, but they had conceded only six goals across the other four league fixtures.
