Armenia vs Cyprus: two goals in 31 minutes decided the first meeting, and Armenia now play without their captain
Cyprus beat Armenia 2-0 in Nicosia on 2 October, with Konomis scoring after 19 minutes and Kakoullis adding a second on 31. They held on for most of the second half with ten men after Pileas was sent off in the 52nd minute, and Armenia still couldn’t find a way back.
The return is at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan on Thursday 12 November, kick-off 17:00 UK time (21:00 local), the early game in League C Group 2. Montenegro top the group with ten points, Cyprus are second on seven, Armenia third on four and Latvia bottom with one.
Only the group winner goes up to League B. Cyprus host Montenegro on Sunday 15 November, and a win in Yerevan would take them to ten points before that meeting with the leaders.
Armenia’s position is weaker. They opened with a 2-0 home win over Latvia, then lost 3-2 at home to Montenegro after leading, lost in Nicosia and drew 0-0 in Podgorica. They haven’t won in three games and haven’t scored in the last two.
The squad news makes it harder. Captain Eduard Spertsyan reported muscle pain after Al-Ahli’s 0-0 draw with Al-Sadd on 2 November and has been ruled out, one of five injured players missing from Yeghishe Melikyan’s 28-man squad.
Armenia: four goals in four games, and Spertsyan’s absence takes away one of them
Spertsyan scored in the 3-2 defeat to Montenegro on 28 September, Armenia’s best attacking performance of the campaign. Serobyan opened the scoring on 34 minutes, Spertsyan restored the lead on 65 after Krstovic’s equaliser, and Montenegro needed Latkovic’s 89th-minute winner to take the points.
Beyond the captain, the absentee list is long. Henri Avagyan, Sergey Muradyan, Julio Bueno and Finn Geragusian are injured, and Melikyan left out Erik Simonyan, Kamo Hovhannisyan and Vahan Bichakhchyan because they lack match fitness after injuries of their own. Simonyan started at centre-back in the 0-0 draw in Montenegro.
There are returns to offset that. Defender Bandikyan of CSKA Moscow, injured before the October games, is back, and forward Sevikyan of Ceuta is available again after serving a suspension in Podgorica. Tiknizyan of Olympiacos and Iwu of Rubin Kazan remain central to the side.
Melikyan has been in charge since September 2025 and has won two of his 13 matches. Before this campaign Armenia drew 1-1 at home with both Kazakhstan and Moldova in June friendlies, and their only competitive win this autumn is the 2-0 against Latvia, with goals from Arutyunyan on 31 minutes and Gharibyan on 75.
Home results against Cyprus have been better than away ones. Armenia beat them 3-2 in a friendly in Yerevan in November 2017 and drew 2-2 there in March 2023, a game in which Artymatas was sent off for Cyprus two minutes from time.

Cyprus: back-to-back wins and five goals in four games for Mantzios
Cyprus have won their last two games, 2-0 against Armenia and 2-1 against Latvia, both in Nicosia. The Latvia win came late: Daskevics gave the visitors the lead on 57 minutes, Kosti equalised on 70 and Marcus Edwards scored the winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Edwards, who plays for Burnley, has two goals in the group and is the most dangerous player either side will field on Thursday. He also scored first in Podgorica on 25 September, where Cyprus led for 11 minutes before Montenegro came back to win 2-1.
Akis Mantzios has his midfield built around Kastanos of Hellas Verona, Artymatas and Loizou, with Kyprianou of Watford in the back line. Against Latvia he used a 4-4-2 with Kakoullis and Pittas up front, the pair that combined for the second goal against Armenia in October.
The defence has conceded three goals in four games, the fewest in the group. They kept clean sheets in the 0-0 in Riga and the win over Armenia, and Cyprus haven’t lost by more than one goal in the campaign.
Cyprus drew 0-0 in Latvia and lost 2-1 in Montenegro, so they’ve yet to win on the road in this group. Pileas, sent off against Armenia in the first meeting, should be available again after missing the Latvia game.

Free Football Prediction: Armenia vs Cyprus
Our prediction: Cyprus draw no bet
We’re siding with Cyprus, with the stake returned on a draw. They beat Armenia 2-0 five weeks ago, they’ve conceded the fewest goals in the group, and Armenia go into this game without their captain and with three more regulars left out for fitness.
The case for Armenia rests on home soil: they’re unbeaten in the last two meetings with Cyprus in Yerevan, and Cyprus haven’t won away in this group. That’s why we’re not taking the straight win. Even so, Armenia haven’t scored in their last 180 minutes and their only win this season came against the bottom side.
Cyprus also have more to play for. A win keeps them in the promotion race going into Sunday’s game against Montenegro, and with Edwards in form and a defence that has given up three goals in four matches, we expect them to avoid defeat at the very least. Odds for this game hadn’t been posted at the time of writing.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
