Ajax vs Sion : 4-2 in the first leg, no clean sheets either side 
Ajax won 4-2 at Stade de Tourbillon on 20 August in the first leg of this play-off tie. Julian Brandt, Marcos Leonardo, Tolu Arokodare and Davy Klaassen were on target for the Dutch side.
The pattern matters here: Sion led 1-0 at half-time before shipping four second-half goals, including two either side of a conceded penalty.
The return leg is on Thursday 27 August at Johan Cruijff ArenA, with kick-off at 20:00 local time in the Netherlands. A two-goal cushion and home turf in Amsterdam put Ajax in a clear commanding position.
One stat does take the shine off that control: Míchel’s men have shipped exactly two goals in three straight matches. Ajax have not kept a clean sheet once at home this season.
On the other side, Didier Tholot is in charge of a team that has gone five games without a shutout. So this second leg is really all about the back lines.

Ajax head into this game on a 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Their last defeat came in Míchel’s first friendly against Panathinaikos, back in early July.
That streak has been built on firepower, not discipline. The Amsterdam side score plenty and give up plenty too.
The summer 2026 window did strip two players out of the attack: Wout Weghorst moved to FC Twente and Mika Godts joined Paris Saint-Germain. The goals have kept flowing anyway.
Tolu Arokodare scored his first official goal for the club at Tourbillon and added an assist. The Nigerian is pushing for his first competitive start.
Daley Blind is in the squad, but a knock makes him a doubt. Amourricho van Axel Dongen, Rayane Bounida and Maher Carrizo are unavailable through injury or registration issues.

Sion : five games without a clean sheet, and the pressure is on 
Sion need to overturn a two-goal deficit in Amsterdam if they are to force extra time. It is a heavy lift, made worse by the fact the Valais side have gone five matches without a clean sheet.
In that run, three matches saw them concede at least two goals. This is not a blip. It is a weakness.
It is not all doom and gloom, though. Before the first leg, Sion were unbeaten in six, winning five of them across the Super League and European qualifiers.
Winsley Boteli remains the club’s top scorer, but he drew a blank at Tourbillon after scoring in four straight matches against BATE and FC Noah. Franck Surdez, who opened the scoring in the first leg, also caused real problems down the left.
Kreshnik Hajrizi may be in the Swiss squad, but the defender has not played since May because of a muscle issue. A return against Ajax looks highly unlikely.

Ajax have not kept a single clean sheet at home this season, and they have conceded exactly two goals in three consecutive matches. The problem cuts across both the Eredivisie and the Conference League.
Sion, meanwhile, have to attack if they are going to stay alive in this tie, with Boteli and Surdez already doing damage to this defence a week ago. Swiss urgency and Dutch frailty meet in exactly the right place for this market.
