Five-star combo guard A.J. Williams reclassifies from 2028 to the 2027 recruiting class

A.J. Williams reclassifies to 2027, becomes top-10 recruit

Williams jumps to 2027

A.J. Williams reclassified to the recruiting class of 2027. The Eagles Landing Christian Academy guard confirmed the move to ESPN earlier today, leaving behind the 2028 group he had topped through the summer.

Williams dominated the AAU circuit and held the No. 1 ranking in the 2028 class. He now slots in seventh in ESPN’s 2027 rankings, a jump that pulls his college timeline forward a full year.

The 6-foot-7 combo guard turned 17 in June. He plans to take at least nine official visits once the fall window opens.

Blue bloods line up

Georgia and Georgia Tech want to keep Williams in his home state. The competition runs deep behind them. UConn, Duke, North Carolina, Illinois, Auburn and Mississippi State all sit in his group of contenders.

247Sports tags Georgia Tech as the early favorite, with Auburn close behind. Williams will work through the field during his visits.

A new name tops 2028

Williams’ exit reshuffles the class he leaves behind. Recruiting services now rank California center Yann Kamagate, a 7-footer who stretches the floor, as the top player in 2028. Kamagate already holds offers from Duke, North Carolina, Arizona, Alabama, Baylor and Kansas.
