Augsburg’s start boils down to two results: a 3-0 win over Schalke 04 at the WWK Arena, then a 4-1 victory at Deutsche Bank Park against Eintracht Frankfurt. Six points from six, best attack and best defence in the league.
The win in Frankfurt said plenty about Manuel Baum’s team’s response. Trailing 1-0 at the break, they turned the game around inside two minutes after half-time.
Arijon Ibrahimovic levelled in the 46th minute with a header from a Marius Wolf cross, before forcing the own goal that made it 1-2 for Robin Fellhauer. The midfielder, on loan from Bayern Munich during the 2026 summer window, was named man of the match on his Bundesliga debut.
Alexis Claude-Maurice, coming off the bench, made it 3-1 in the 65th minute, and Fabian Rieder wrapped it up from a free-kick in the 89th. Augsburg’s ability to score from the bench is a real weapon in an early afternoon contest.
The key point is defensive discipline: just one goal conceded in two rounds, Jonathan Burkardt’s strike in Frankfurt. That kind of control is exactly what Leverkusen will try to test.

Leverkusen started the season with a defeat before putting Union Berlin to the sword in a 4-0 win at the BayArena. Six goals scored, three conceded, three points on the board.
That victory was Carles Martinez’s first in charge of the Rhine club, after arriving from Toulouse in the 2026 summer window. A graduate of La Masia, where he helped shape Fermin Lopez, Gavi and Xavi Simons, the Spanish coach is installing a clear possession game.
Ezequiel Fernandez opened the scoring after 43 seconds, the fastest goal in the Bundesliga so far this season. The Argentine, signed from Al-Qadsiah in 2025, finally opened his account on his 22nd appearance in Germany’s top flight.
Facundo Medina scored on his first start, with his first shot. The Argentine defender, recruited from Marseille in the 2026 summer window on a five-year deal, is fresh from a 2026 World Cup in which he featured five times, including 50 minutes in the final.
Miguel Gutierrez, who arrived from Napoli in the same window, already has two assists and was involved in four of Leverkusen’s nine first-half attempts against Union. Ibrahim Maza and Patrik Schick added the rest.
