Sevilla vs Valencia: one point from twelve for the visitors ahead of round five 
Valencia head to Sevilla with one point from a possible 12. That haul leaves the Che in the relegation zone heading into round five.
This game opens the fifth round of La Liga action. Kick-off is set for Friday, September 11 at 21:00, Spanish and local time, at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.
Sevilla are back from Barcelona, where Espanyol snatched a stoppage-time draw from them. The Andalusians were still 1-0 up in the 85th minute before collapsing in the 90th+8.
That point had a bit of bite to it: Seville had to defend with 10 men for more than half an hour after Sangante was sent off in the 56th minute. It said plenty about the side’s grit.
The previous week, the Sevilla outfit had already folded without much argument against Atletico Madrid. Two games, no wins: the run is starting to weigh.
Valencia, meanwhile, come in off a flat afternoon at Mestalla. Barca hit them for five without reply and left La Liga as clear leaders.
So both sides arrive on Friday in very different moods. Sevilla can feel hard done by, Valencia need to do their talking on the pitch.
The gap is easiest to spot in the available squads. That’s where this match is tilted most clearly, and that imbalance shapes the whole read.
Sevilla held on with 10 until the 98th minute 
Stassin broke the deadlock in the 85th minute at the RCDE Stadium. The striker, off the bench, punished a lapse in the Catalan defence.
The goal came with Seville down to 10 men for almost half an hour. Sangante had been sent off in the 56th minute for hauling down Roberto as he burst through on goal.
In that same spell, VAR ruled out an El Hilali goal for Espanyol. The Andalusian block therefore spent a long stretch under pressure and still did not break.
The first half had already set the tone with six yellow cards shown. Sevilla managed to cool the early heat from the Catalans thanks to Miguel Sierra and Ejuke down the flanks.
It took until the 90th+8 minute, and a ball that came back off the bar, for Marcos Fernandez to level it. On paper, that is a point earned with 10 men, but two points thrown away given how the game unfolded.
The starting XI from that day offers a useful clue: Vlachodimos in goal, Kike Salas and Sangante at centre-back, Kochorashvili and Agoume paired in midfield, Robbie Ure up top.
The bench also had an impact, with Stassin, Fofana, Carmona and Manu Bueno all called upon in the second half. That depth will matter on Friday against a side missing bodies.
Two players will be absent, though. Ruben Vargas is out, and Sangante serves the ban from his red card.

Valencia come off a 0-5 and have seven out 
Valencia have one point after four rounds. That return leaves them in the drop zone at the start of the weekend.
The 0-5 home defeat to Barca at Mestalla made the picture crystal clear. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 6th minute before adding a second in the 84th.
Fermin Lopez in the 22nd minute, Raphinha in the 50th and Pedri in the 79th completed the damage. The Catalans now have 17 goals and three clean sheets from four matches.
Corberan’s five-man defence lasted only a quarter of an hour. The second goal arrived before the half-hour and the contest was done by the break.
It was not all bad for Valencia, though. Dimitrievski made a string of saves against Lamine Yamal and Fermin, and Danjuma twice found himself one-on-one with Joan Garcia after Barca giveaways.
The bigger issue is squad depth. Corberan must do without Foulquier, Copete, De Haas, Diego Lopez, Umar Sadiq, Canos and Guido Rodriguez.
Seven absentees for a team already struggling naturally limits the rotation options. The centre-back pairing used against Barca, with Arnau and Diakhaby, will probably have to go again.
Harvey Elliott, signed in the 2026 summer window, made his debut by coming on in the 54th minute against Barca. His arrival did not change the flow of the game.

Our pick: Sevilla to win
Sevilla held on with 10 men at Espanyol until the 98th minute. A side capable of pulling off that sort of job in front of its own fans against a team with one point from 12 starts with a real edge.
Valencia’s seven absentees only make Corberan’s task harder as he tries to rebuild a defensive unit after a 0-5 hammering. Sevilla, despite Sangante’s suspension, still have a much fuller squad.
The battle out wide also favours the Andalusians, with Ejuke and Miguel Sierra up against a reworked Valencia defence. That’s exactly where Barca caused the Che the most damage.
The price around 2.30 on an Andalusian win offers fair value for the risk. Take Sevilla.
