Bayern Munich have scored 22 goals and conceded just 4 across their last five warm-up matches. Dortmund, over the same spell, have scored 6 and shipped 8.
Those two runs meet on Saturday 22 August at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. The Franz Beckenbauer Supercup officially opens the German season.
It is still a one-off tie, no second leg, between the league champions and the cup winners. With Bayern doing the double last season, the Bundesliga runners-up get the nod as opponents and home side.
The same scenario had not happened since 2021. The trophy now carries the name of Franz Beckenbauer, who died in January 2024, after a joint decision by the DFL and the DFB.
Across the previous nine editions involving these two clubs, Bayern have won five to Dortmund’s four. This trophy has been pretty even. Recent meetings? Not so much.

Dortmund have won just one of their last five warm-up games, against FC Tokyo. Three defeats and a draw make up the rest.
Their latest test, on 15 August against AS Roma, finished 2-2 after they had fallen two goals behind. Julian Ryerson and Serhou Guirassy pulled the BVB level in under 30 minutes.
That fightback is about the only thing Dortmund can really point to from the summer. The real red flag is at the back: eight goals conceded in those five games, including three against Arsenal.
Niko Kovac has no injury or suspension issues to report ahead of this one. So the staff has a full squad available for the first official match of the season.
Guirassy remains the main source of goals and will once again have to carry the line. Dortmund’s other trump card is the Yellow Wall, and in a one-off match the noise at Signal Iduna Park always matters.

Four wins in five friendlies, 22 goals scored, 4 conceded: Bayern’s summer does not leave much room for doubt.
Their latest outing, on 15 August, ended in a 3-1 win over RB Leipzig. Aston Villa (2-1) and Jeju SK (2-1) had already been brushed aside earlier on the tour.
Vincent Kompany has brought Luis Diaz into the attacking trio alongside Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise. Harry Kane remains the focal point up front, and Bayern’s high press already looks well drilled.
There are still three question marks, though. Konrad Laimer went off early against Leipzig with discomfort in his foot or knee and could no longer walk without help, while Min-jae Kim also left that match with a thigh problem.
Musiala was taken off late as well after suffering a circulation issue linked to the heat, but the club said he had recovered by full time. Bayern are chasing a 12th Supercup.
