Bordeaux might be playing their final match of the summer. Not on grass, but in front of the administrative courts. After a season of financial chaos, shifting plans and disciplinary rulings, the club now awaits a verdict that could shape its future. The Paris administrative court is due to rule this Friday, before 18:00.
The hearing took place on Thursday afternoon. For several hours, Bordeaux’s representatives tried to persuade the court that the club now has the financial backing to start again in National 1, the fourth tier of French football. The stakes are huge: if the ruling is not put on hold, Bordeaux will have to begin again in Regional 1.
This is a long way from a routine paperwork exercise. For Bordeaux, it is about preserving a place in national football and, crucially, giving the rebuild project backed by the new investors a chance.

Bordeaux press its case over new financial backing
Bordeaux’s lawyers had one clear job: prove the new project can stand up and challenge the relegation handed down by the French football authorities.
The club is leaning heavily on the arrival of Sparta Capital and fresh investors, who are supposed to provide the financial guarantees needed to keep the story going. The aim is to convince the court that the club is no longer in the same position that led the DNCG to hand down its punishment.
The legal fight comes after a run of highly turbulent episodes. The DNCG appeal commission confirmed Bordeaux’s relegation on 15 July. The case then went to the CNOSF, whose conciliation proposal still failed to save the club from dropping to Regional 1. The French Football Federation then backed that route.
Now Bordeaux are trying to shift the ground in the administrative court.
A ruling that could change everything
According to Sud Ouest, Bordeaux, along with Sparta Capital and the new investors, have asked for several recent decisions to be suspended. They are challenging the DNCG appeal commission’s ruling, the CNOSF conciliation proposal and the FFF’s decision not to refer the matter to its executive committee before following the recommendation.
At the heart of the legal fight is a simple request: get another chance to present the financial case and force the DNCG to look at the club again.
The clock is almost out. The verdict is expected on Friday before 18:00. Within hours, Bordeaux will know whether they can still cling on to National 1 or whether they are headed for a brutal drop to Regional 1.
For a club that once lived for European nights, big names and a fanbase among the most passionate in France, the contrast is stark. But before any talk of rebuilding, Bordeaux still have one final door to kick open.
