PSG vs Aston Villa : the UEFA Super Cup kicks off the season in Salzburg 
Paris Saint-Germain face Aston Villa on Wednesday, 12 August, at Stadion Salzburg in the UEFA Super Cup. The Champions League winners go up against the Europa League champions.

A win would allow PSG to retain the UEFA Super Cup from one year to the next. The French club would then become only the second side in the modern era to do it, after Real Madrid in 2016 and 2017.
PSG favourites, but still not up to speed 
Paris Saint-Germain are coming off a historic season under Luis Enrique. The Spanish coach has collected 12 trophies since arriving in 2023.
The results clearly point in Paris’ direction. The Ligue 1-Champions League double shows how far they have pulled away from everyone else at home and abroad.

Aston Villa are playing their first competitive match since a hugely impressive season. The Birmingham club finished fourth in the Premier League while also winning the Europa League.
That European crown confirmed the steady progress the Villans have made in recent years. The 3-0 win over Freiburg in the final capped the project in style.
Unai Emery brings a level of continental expertise few managers can match for nights like this. The Basque coach is the most decorated manager in the history of the competition with five trophies.
Emery is also the first manager to win this competition with three different clubs. That sort of final experience is a clear psychological plus.
Villa, though, are stepping into the unknown against a heavyweight opponent. The lack of recent benchmark games could cut either way.
Emery’s trademark defensive discipline remains Villa’s calling card. Shutting down the space in front of PSG’s forwards will be the key job on the night.
