Giron vs Zverev : the German has a golden chance at Wimbledon
Alexander Zverev may never have had a better opportunity to make a major statement at Wimbledon. Fresh off his Roland-Garros triumph, the German arrives in London with a new status and, more importantly, a huge ranking opportunity. He went out in the first round last year, so he has no points to defend over the next fortnight and is already using this run to close in on Carlos Alcaraz.
He is now just 880 points behind the Spaniard, who is absent from this edition. That gives every round even more weight. To keep moving forward, world No 3 Zverev has to get past Marcos Giron, an opponent he knows very well. The pair have met four times and Zverev has won all four. Better still, the American has not taken a set off him since their first clash in 2021.
Giron finally discovers the second week in London
At 32, Marcos Giron has a small first on his hands. The American had never reached the third round at Wimbledon. He had to wait until 2026 to finally get there, even with a grass-court build-up that hardly inspired much confidence.
Before arriving in London, Giron had lost five of his eight matches on grass this season. Not exactly ideal prep before the biggest event of the year on the surface. Yet since the tournament began, something has shifted.
His opening match against Corentin Moutet had all the signs of a trap. Down after dropping the first set, the American did not panic and gradually turned the match around to win in four sets (4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4). Two days later, he raised his level again against Quentin Halys. This time there was no need to hang around: a straight-sets win (7-6, 6-3, 6-4) and a clean passage into the next round.
Giron can rely on a serve that has held up well so far. With an average of 7.5 aces per match and strong efficiency behind his first ball, he has avoided handing out cheap points. But his game is not just about serve and hold. The American also likes to break up rhythm on return, get one more ball back and drag opponents into a rally.
Against Zverev, the issue is elsewhere. He will need to keep that level for three, four, maybe five sets against a player who has never suited him. And so far, the rematch has often been painful.
Try it for $0.99.
Zverev does not want to stop after Paris
Alexander Zverev has finally pulled out a huge thorn. After a string of near-misses and years of circling the prize, the German landed his first Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros. A few weeks later, he is straight back in the fight with the same ambition.
The change of surface has not broken his momentum. Before Wimbledon, Zverev reached the semi-finals in Halle, a clear sign he had quickly found his grass-court groove. In London, his path has been controlled in both of his first two matches, against Alexander Blockx and then Valentin Royer.
No cause for alarm. The German is still leaning on what has defined his career from the start: a massive serve and the ability to take charge of exchanges once he moves up the court. He is averaging 9.5 aces per match in the tournament and wins around three points out of four on serve.
Grass can sometimes wake up one of his old flaws. Zverev has a habit of drifting back, waiting for mistakes and letting his opponent breathe when he could be squeezing the life out of them. But against Giron, he will want to shorten rallies and impose his power straight away.
The recent history between the two men points clearly that way. Since dropping a set to the American in their first meeting in 2021, Zverev has not given up a single one. Three meetings, three clear wins, and never really the sense that Giron could flip the script.
Tennis pick : Giron vs Zverev
Alexander Zverev wins 3-0
Marcos Giron is already enjoying the best Wimbledon run of his career and his first two rounds showed he belongs at this stage. But the jump from beating Corentin Moutet or Quentin Halys to taking down an Alexander Zverev riding a title charge is massive.
The German has won all four meetings and Giron has not taken a set off him since 2021. With his serve, his power and the confidence banked from his Roland-Garros title, Zverev has everything he needs to control this one without hanging around on court. Giron can nick a few games and maybe drag a set to 7-5 or a tie-break, but over the full distance, seeing the American steal a set looks like a stretch.
in your pocket.

First, a word on our picks
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We offer an opinion, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the script changes completely.
- Let us be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, nothing really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- The smart move is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live. And above all: do not chase your losses, because that rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your day, if it winds you up or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if needed, speak to a specialist organisation. That is what they are there for.
- At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.

No commitment from us
Our picks are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain English: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Information can change
A pick is always based on what we know when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes, a player gets hurt, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly go out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before betting, simply check that gambling is legal where you are. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
Responsible gambling first
