St. Louis Blues vs Montreal Canadiens: Suzuki’s streak is over, and a rookie goaltender has won five straight
Nick Suzuki had played 546 consecutive NHL games, every one since his debut in 2019-20, before an upper-body injury ended the run last week. Montreal announced on 22 October that he’d miss two to four weeks, and the Canadiens visit St. Louis without him on Tuesday 27 October, puck drop 8pm ET.
Suzuki had 12 points, five goals and seven assists, from nine games. His last appearance was the 4-3 overtime defeat to San Jose on 20 October, when he scored, set up another and played 21:03.
Montreal have won both games they’ve played since the announcement. The second was a 2-1 victory over Winnipeg in the Heritage Classic at Princess Auto Stadium on Sunday, which left them 6-3-2 with points from four straight games.
St. Louis are 5-5-1 and 3-1-1 at home. Their injury list has seven names on it, among them Torey Krug, Dillon Dube and Logan Mailloux.
It’s the first meeting of the season between the two. Montreal are 2-1-1 on the road, and the Blues are 4-1-0 in games where they’ve scored at least three goals.
St. Louis Blues: 4-1-0 when they reach three goals, 1-4-1 when they don’t
The Blues beat Winnipeg 2-1 at Enterprise Center on 20 October to end a two-game losing run. Jimmy Snuggerud redirected a Dylan Holloway pass for his fifth goal of the season, and Philip Broberg won it with a power-play slap shot 8:47 into the third period.
Joel Hofer made 32 saves that night. Robert Thomas’s assist on the winner was the 332nd of his career, one short of Brian Sutter’s total, which stands fourth in club history.
Two nights later St. Louis beat Vegas 6-2 on home ice. The split in their record is stark, though: 4-1-0 when they score three or more, and 1-4-1 in their other six games.
The power play has converted close to a quarter of its chances in the recent sample. Montreal are 2-2-2 in games where they’ve taken more penalties than their opponent, so a busy night in the box would help the home side.
The absentees are Krug (ankle), Dube (neck), Mailloux (hand), Tyler Tucker (knee), Alexey Toropchenko (upper body), Ross Johnston (lower body) and Adam Jecho (personal).

Montreal Canadiens: Fowler has allowed eight goals across five straight wins
Jacob Fowler made 33 saves in Winnipeg on Sunday. At 21 years and 335 days he became the youngest goaltender in NHL history to start an outdoor game, and the win was his fifth in a row, with eight goals conceded over those five starts.
Montreal scored both goals in the second period. Lane Hutson finished a backdoor pass from Noah Dobson at 7:19, and Kaiden Guhle beat Stuart Skinner with a wrist shot from the blue line at 11:04, his goal in a second straight game.
Cole Caufield assisted on both. Isak Rosen’s goal at 15:24 of the third was the only one Fowler allowed, and Winnipeg finished with 34 shots to Montreal’s 21.
The absences go beyond Suzuki. Ivan Demidov (lower body), Samuel Montembeault (lower body), Lucas Condotta and Bryce Pickford are all out, which leaves Fowler as the clear first choice in goal.
Guhle has three points from his last two games, two goals and an assist. Montreal’s run of points now covers three wins and an overtime defeat.

Our prediction: Montreal Canadiens moneyline (overtime included)
We’re siding with the goaltender in form. Fowler has five straight wins with eight goals conceded, and he’s just stopped 33 shots in the most unusual start of his career.
The case against is real: without Suzuki, Demidov and Montembeault, Montreal are thinner than their record suggests, and St. Louis are 3-1-1 at home. But the Blues have seven players of their own on the injury list and have won once in six games when held under three goals. Fowler’s five-game run has averaged 1.6 goals against.
No price had been posted when we wrote this. We’d take the Canadiens moneyline, overtime included, at 1.90 or better, and we’d pass if it shortens below 1.70.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
