Paris Saint-Germain vs Barcelona: 19 Champions League goals between them in four games
Barcelona won 5-2 at Real Betis on Saturday. It was their ninth La Liga win from nine, a start that equals Real Madrid’s record from the 1968/69 season and leaves Hansi Flick’s side five points clear of Atlético Madrid.
Three days later they visit the Parc des Princes for the third round of the Champions League league phase, with kick-off at 8pm UK time on Tuesday. Both clubs have six points from two games, and the goal numbers are what stand out: Paris Saint-Germain have scored ten, Barcelona nine.
PSG’s route to six points was a 6-1 home win over Slovan Bratislava and a 4-2 win at Manchester City on 14 October. Barcelona beat Feyenoord 5-1 at home and won 4-1 at Galatasaray on 13 October. Across those four matches, the two sides have scored 19 goals and conceded five.
The last meeting went to Paris. On 1 October 2025, PSG won 2-1 in Barcelona in the league phase, with Ferran Torres scoring for Barcelona on 19 minutes before Senny Mayulu equalised on 38 and Gonçalo Ramos won it in the 90th. PSG had 15 shots to Barcelona’s 12 and seven on target to three.
The longer history has swung both ways. PSG went through 5-2 on aggregate in the 2020-21 round of 16, and four years earlier won the first leg 4-0 before losing the return 6-1. Barcelona knocked PSG out in the 2012-13 and 2014-15 quarter-finals.
We see a match where both defences are under strain. Barcelona finished Saturday with Gerard Martín, Gabriel Jesus and Eric García all forced off, and PSG lost Nuno Mendes late on at Strasbourg with no substitutions left. Neither side has kept the ball out reliably in Europe, and neither is short of finishers.
Paris Saint-Germain: ten goals in two games, and Dembélé back in the goals
PSG were 3-0 up at the Etihad just after the half-hour mark. Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha scored, Maghnes Akliouche added a fourth between Erling Haaland’s two second-half goals, and the champions of the last two seasons left Manchester with a 4-2 win.
That followed a 6-1 opener against Slovan Bratislava, in which Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick and Dembélé added two. Ferran now has five goals since his move from Barcelona, and Tuesday puts him up against his former club.
Saturday’s 3-1 win at Strasbourg was a different kind of game. Luis Enrique rotated after the City trip and PSG went behind on 17 minutes through Reyna’s deflected shot. Ilya Zabarnyi equalised on 77, Dembélé came off the bench, missed a penalty on 72 minutes and then scored on 86, and Doué finished it in stoppage time from a Ferran cutback.
The concern is at left-back. Nuno Mendes went off injured late in Strasbourg, after PSG had made all their changes, and they finished with ten men. Mayulu, who scored in last year’s win in Barcelona, is out for around a month. If Mendes misses Tuesday, Lamine Yamal will face a reshuffled flank.
PSG have also conceded in both Champions League games and went a goal down at Strasbourg. Matvey Safonov made several saves on Saturday, but this is a side that wins by outscoring opponents rather than shutting them out, and we’d expect the same approach against Barcelona.

Barcelona: nine straight league wins, three players forced off in Seville
Lamine Yamal opened the scoring at La Cartuja after ten minutes. Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric García and Dani Olmo added the rest, with Valentín Gómez and Abde Ezzalzouli replying for Betis, who played the last 36 minutes with ten men after Facundo Bernal’s red card on 54.
Yamal has been the creative centre in Europe as well. He has four assists in the two Champions League games, and Barcelona’s attack at Galatasaray came from all over the pitch: João Cancelo equalised before half-time, then Fermín López, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi scored after the break.
The cost of Saturday was physical. Gerard Martín, Jesus and Eric García were all forced off, two defenders and a centre-forward in the same afternoon. Gavi replaced Jesus, and Raphinha, who had a thigh injury on international duty, came on for Yamal around the 70th minute and played the rest of the game.
Barcelona have conceded two goals in two Champions League games and two more at Betis, where a Giovani Lo Celso equaliser was also ruled out by VAR. If Martín and García aren’t fit on Tuesday, Flick will have to rebuild the back four three days after Seville.
Flick also has El Clásico against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou next Sunday. We don’t expect him to hold anyone back in Paris, but the injury list means the defence he picks is likely to be less settled than the one that started the season.
Probable lineup Paris Saint-Germain: Safonov; Hakimi, Zabarnyi, Pacho, Nuno Mendes; Fabián Ruiz, Vitinha, Dro Fernández; Akliouche, Dembélé, Ferran Torres
Probable lineup Barcelona: Joan García; Cancelo, Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, Eric García; Pedri, Rodri, Fermín López; Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo, Gordon

Our prediction: Both teams to score – Yes
We don’t see a clear favourite. The markets have Barcelona at around 2.50, and that’s a fair reflection of a visiting side in record form against a home side that has beaten Manchester City away. The goals market is where the evidence is strongest.
Both sides scored in every one of the four Champions League games these two clubs have played this season, and between them PSG and Barcelona have scored 19 goals. PSG have conceded in both European matches and at Strasbourg on Saturday. Barcelona conceded twice at Betis and come in with Gerard Martín and Eric García both doubts after being forced off.
The last meeting finished 2-1 with goals from both sides, and the attacking options on each bench, with Dembélé, Doué and Ferran for PSG, Raphinha, Olmo and Adeyemi for Barcelona, make a clean sheet hard to see. We back both teams to score.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
