Ligue 1: Yoram Zague loaned to Paphos FC

Copenhagen did not want to keep him

Fifteen matches. Two goals. One assist.

On paper, Yoram Zague’s season in Denmark was no disaster. A right-back who scores twice in 15 appearances? Plenty would take that. Copenhagen didn’t see it that way. The Danish club decided there was no point extending the deal.

Back to square one in Paris. Except Paris Saint-Germain had no plan to make room for him either.

Off to Cyprus, with an option to buy

The capital club confirmed just after midday that the right-back has joined Paphos FC on loan. The deal also includes an option to buy, running through to the end of the 2026-2027 season.

“A Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate, Yoram Zague joins Paphos FC on loan, with an option to buy, through to the end of the 2026-2027 season. The 20-year-old defender will continue his development with the Cypriot club. Paris Saint-Germain wishes Yoram an excellent season in the colours of Paphos FC,” the club said in its statement.

The buy option changes the whole picture. This is no longer a simple loan to get minutes. It is an exit route.

Two years left, and then what?

Zague remains under contract at PSG until June 2028. Two seasons, with one already set to be spent in Cyprus.

The Paris logic is straightforward. If Paphos takes up the option, the club gets something back for a player who was never going to break into the rotation. If not, Zague returns with just a year left on his deal and the room to manoeuvre gets even tighter.

The Cypriot league is a step below the Danish one. But Zague will probably find more minutes there than he ever would in Paris. At 20, that is what matters most.
