A lost season ends in an operating room
Triston Casas had surgery on his left wrist on Thursday. It was an arthroscopic procedure, carried out by Dr. Matthew Leibman at Newton-Wellesley Surgery Center in Massachusetts. Boston gave no timetable for a return.
The Red Sox first baseman remains on the 60-day injured list. His 2026 season has been little more than one setback after another.

A body breaking down, piece by piece
It all started with a ruptured patellar tendon in May 2025. Casas then took an abdominal injury at spring training. Then came wrist inflammation while trying to come back. In the end, the wrist went under the knife.
At 26, the story is starting to weigh heavy. Drafted 26th overall in 2018, he was supposed to be part of the future at Fenway. He has 45 home runs and 120 RBIs in 251 games across four seasons. Decent numbers, never stretched into a full season.
Boston moves on without him
The Red Sox, for their part, did not wait around. The club is carrying on without its first baseman while Casas counts up the months on the sidelines. The question is no longer when he comes back. It is what condition he will be in.
