Real Madrid seal Marc Cucurella deal
Real Madrid are keeping busy in the transfer market, and this time Marc Cucurella is the one heading to the Bernabeu. The Spanish left-back is leaving Chelsea and signing a long-term contract through to 2032. It is another move in what has already been a frantic summer in Madrid.
The timing matters. After a season the board saw as nowhere near good enough, the club have decided to rip things up and start again. The early business suggests a pretty serious reset.
A major deal worth around 60 million euros
Chelsea and Real Madrid have struck an agreement worth close to 60 million euros, add-ons included. Cucurella, 27, had been on the radar for some time, even with plenty of competition. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid had also been tracking his situation, but neither pushed the financial case. In the end, Madrid moved fast and got it done.
In the Premier League, the Spaniard leaves behind a strong body of work. He made 163 appearances for Chelsea since 2022, scored nine goals, and, perhaps most importantly, became a regular starter even in a side that often looked all over the place.
A position Real Madrid wanted to fix, and a summer now in full swing
Left-back has been a problem area in Madrid for a while. Ferland Mendy’s injuries have broken up any sense of continuity, while the backup options have not always convinced over the long haul, whether that was Fran Garcia or Alvaro Carreras. In that context, Cucurella arrives with a fairly simple brief: steady a flank that changed shape far too often last season.
He is not Real Madrid’s first signing of the summer. The club had already moved in defence, notably with Ibrahima Konate, as part of a gradual rebuild at the back. Jose Mourinho’s return to the dugout has also fed into the mood around the club. His arrival has reopened several internal files and sped up some decisions in the market.

A player with Spain in mind too
With 24 caps, Cucurella remains in Spain’s plans for the 2026 World Cup in North America. So this move comes at a key moment for him, with a club switch landing just as a major international tournament looms.
Real Madrid are continuing to build their squad piece by piece, with the aim of putting right what went wrong last season.
