NBA: Portland erases a 14-point deficit and beats Denver

Portland keeps winning away from home

Denver led by as many as 14 in the second quarter on Monday. Portland still left Colorado with a 118-110 win, its fourth in four road games this season.

The comeback began with five straight three-pointers that cut the Nuggets’ lead to 54-53, though Denver closed the half on a 12-5 run to lead 66-58. Portland started the third with an 8-0 run and Jrue Holiday’s layup gave the Blazers their first lead of the game at 82-80. Denver still went into the fourth up 87-85.

A fourth quarter without Jokic

Nikola Jokic began the fourth on the bench, and Portland used the stretch to open on a 9-2 run, finished by a Holiday three for a 94-89 lead. Jokic cut it to 101-99 with 5:31 left, but a successful challenge wiped out a Denver possession, and two Deni Avdija driving layups and a Holiday corner three made it 108-99 with three minutes to play.

Jamal Murray hit two threes to bring Denver within 110-107. Toumani Camara answered with a three of his own and Avdija sealed it with a floater.

Avdija finished with 28 points, Donovan Clingan had 17 points and 18 rebounds, and Damian Lillard added 20. Holiday contributed 17 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds off the bench. Murray led Denver with 35, just after a 39-point night in Phoenix on Friday, and Jokic had 26 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. The Nuggets have now lost two of their first three home games.
