Rugby ball on a pitch, Top 14 fixtures moved by protests

Rugby: Protests push Vannes-UBB and Toulouse-Clermont back

The protests finally reach the Top 14

Football got there first. Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 fixtures have been shifting for weeks because of the demonstrations across France, and rugby was spared. That ended today. The Ligue Nationale de Rugby confirmed it is moving two games from round 9, the weekend of November 7 and 8, after the prefecture warned that police officers were not available to cover them.

The league did not wait for trouble. Seven matches this weekend are expected to go ahead as planned. The changes come a week later, and they hit the two sides at the top of the table in a particularly awkward way.

What moves, and where

Second-placed Union Bordeaux-Begles were due at 14th-placed RC Vannes on Saturday, November 7, at 14:30. The game will now be played on Sunday, November 8, in the afternoon, with the kick-off time still to be fixed. It will also leave Brittany: the league has relocated it to Nantes.

Stade Toulousain against ASM Clermont is the other one. It was scheduled for 16:35 on the Saturday. Toulouse, who sit first, will host Christophe Urios’s side two hours earlier instead, at 14:30 the same day.

Before that, Antoine Dupont and Toulouse travel to Pau this Sunday, November 1, for the round 8 clash between first and third in the standings.
