A late Portuguese addition
The French transfer window shut at 19:59 on Tuesday. The announcements kept rolling in anyway. At 20:20, RC Strasbourg Alsace confirmed the loan signing of Dario Essugo.
The Portuguese midfielder is 21. He belongs to Chelsea, where he has made seven appearances.

Three leagues before his 22nd birthday
Essugo is no unknown quantity back home. A Sporting academy product, he debuted for the Lisbon club before going out to find games elsewhere: Chaves first, then Las Palmas in Spain.
A Portugal youth international, he lands in Alsace having already sampled three different leagues. At 21, that is a decent CV.
Seven games in a Chelsea shirt is thin for a player his age in a squad that deep. The loan to Ligue 1 rests on one thing: minutes.
The Chelsea to Strasbourg pipeline is working overtime
Essugo was not the only man making the London to Alsace switch that night. Twelve minutes earlier, at 19:48, Strasbourg had confirmed the arrival of Brazilian forward Deivid Washington. Also from Chelsea.
The club had already been busy. Danish striker Conrad Harder, on loan from RB Leipzig, was billed that same morning as signing number 15 of the summer. Then Essugo and Washington landed after dark.
Which leaves the coaching staff with a rather large question about who actually plays.
