A loan move under consideration for the 19-year-old full-back
Steeve Kango is being tracked by several clubs. According to Foot Mercato, the 19-year-old right-back could leave Olympique Lyonnais this summer on loan.
The player signed his first professional contract in July, running through to 2029. He was the second member of Lyon’s 2006 age group to turn pro, after Daryll Benlahlou. It is an achievement earned quickly, but it guarantees nothing when it comes to minutes on the pitch.

Lyon’s thinking: play first, wait later
Those in charge at Lyon would be open to a temporary exit. The idea is simple enough: get him minutes somewhere else rather than leave him stuck behind an established pecking order.
Kango is coming off a heavy reserve season, with 17 matches and a goal. He also made his first four Ligue 1 appearances under Paulo Fonseca, who was impressed by what he saw. The Vaulx-en-Velin native first caught the eye against Celta Vigo, taking advantage of the absence of Maitland-Niles, Hateboer and Noham Kamara.
An opening created by injuries
That is often how academy careers are made. Three players out in the same position, on a Europa League night, and suddenly a teenager is starting in a continental competition. His performances that evening were enough to convince OL to tie him down until 2029.
A loan is still only a possibility, not a done deal. No club has been officially named at this stage and Lyon remain in control of the situation. The issue is not whether Kango has the level, but where he can prove it week after week.
