Coventry have reached an agreement with Fenerbahce
Sidiki Cherif is on the move after just six months in Turkey. According to Foot Mercato, the French striker is close to joining Coventry City. The English club has struck a deal with Fenerbahce for the transfer.
The fee is set at 24.5 million euros. A contract agreement has also been signed off between Coventry and the player, who is expected to commit for the next five seasons.
Cherif is expected in England in the next few hours. He will undergo a medical before completing the move.

A quick profit for Fenerbahce
The maths in Turkey is simple enough. Cherif arrived in February on loan, with a mandatory purchase clause set at 21 million euros, bonuses included. Six months later, Fenerbahce are selling him on for 24.5 million.
So the Istanbul club are making a profit on a player they have only just added to the permanent books. It also says plenty about the current market, where a French striker with Ligue 1 experience can still command serious money without needing a long track record in the Super Lig.
From Angers to the Championship
Cherif made his name at SCO Angers before heading to Turkey. Now his path takes him to the English second tier, a division famous for its physical battles and relentless schedule.
For Coventry, this is a significant outlay at that level. They are backing a young attacking talent on a long deal that protects his value. The question now is whether the Frenchman can adjust to a very different kind of tempo from the one he has just left behind.
