Spain vs Belgium : La Roja meet Belgiums attack
Spain still havent conceded a single goal at this World Cup. Five matches, five clean sheets, and that odd feeling of watching a team win without ever really letting chaos into the room. Belgium, by contrast, have had a far bumpier ride. A wild turnaround against Senegal, then a hammering of the United States. The Red Devils are still here, even though plenty had already written them off as too old, too tired, and past their best.
In Los Angeles, the script is simple: a place in the semi-finals, and precious little room to breathe.
Spain shut almost everything down
La Roja dont need to win 4-0 to make a point. So far in this tournament, theyve moved forward through control. The ball keeps moving, the lines stay tight, and opponents often end up chasing shadows long before they get near anything useful.
The last-16 tie against Portugal summed it up. Tight game, few openings, then Mikel Merino found the gap at the right moment. Before that, Austria were brushed aside 3-0 without ever really finding a foothold. Oyarzabal remains Spains top scorer at this World Cup, Lamine Yamal keeps running at defenders, and Rodri is still running the show in midfield.
Luis de la Fuente is unlikely to tinker much with his XI. Nico Williams still needs more rhythm, Merino is pushing for a start, but the core is there. And while Spain defend like this, every opponent starts with a problem.
Belgium have found some life
Belgium could easily have gone out against Senegal. They were 2-0 down and staring into the abyss. Then came Lukaku, Tielemans, extra time, and a qualification dragged out of a night gone completely mad. The next game changed the mood around their tournament: 4-1 against the United States, with Charles De Ketelaere sharp and tidy as a false nine.
Rudi Garcia also raised a few eyebrows by leaving several big names on the bench from the start. Kevin De Bruyne could have a bigger role in this quarter-final, especially after Amadou Onanas injury. Lukaku, though, is still the key weapon. Three goals in this World Cup, all off the bench, and still the ability to punish teams once defenders start switching off.
Belgium score plenty and shoot plenty, but against Spain theyll have to accept a different reality: chances will be scarce, turnovers will be costly, and transitions will be harder to trigger.
Expected line-ups :
Spain : Simon; Porro, Cubarsi, Laporte, Cucurella; Rodri, Pedri; Yamal, Olmo, Baena; Oyarzabal
Belgium : Courtois; Castagne, Ngoy, Mechele, De Cuyper; Vanaken, Tielemans; Lukebakio, De Bruyne, Trossard; De Ketelaere

World Cup 2026 prediction : Spain vs Belgium
Under 2.5 goals in the match
Belgium arrive with plenty of attacking momentum, but this quarter-final doesnt look anything like their last two games. Spain give up almost nothing. They still havent conceded in this World Cup and just edged past Portugal in a very tight game, showing serious defensive control.
La Roja should again look to slow the pace, keep the ball, and stop the Red Devils from breaking at speed. Thats exactly the sort of thing that can take Belgium away from their best weapons, especially Doku, Trossard or De Ketelaere in transition.
At the other end, Spain can score, but they dont need a wide-open game to go through. One goal could flip the whole mood. In a quarter-final this heavy, between a team that shuts everything down and a Belgium side likely to be more cautious than in the last round, under 2.5 goals is still the most sensible call.

First, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We give an opinion, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Lets be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- The best approach is to keep it sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Above all, dont touch money you need to live on. And dont chase losses, because that usually ends badly.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your day, getting on your nerves or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if you need to, speak to a specialist support group. Thats what theyre there for.
- In the end, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and never goes away, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Important reminder: betting is forbidden for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can quickly spiral out of control, leading to money problems, family tension and addiction. Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time it is written. But then a team sheet changes, a player gets injured, the weather turns… and the analysis can be out of date fast. We cannot be held responsible for that.
