Rabbitohs vs Dolphins: a fixture that could get lively in a hurry
Magic Round rolls on Friday night with a cracking showdown between the Rabbitohs and the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium. Two teams that like to play at pace, two attacks that can pile on points in bursts, and two sides arriving with real belief after strong efforts last week.
The market has the Dolphins a shade ahead after back-to-back wins, but this looks far tighter than the odds suggest. South Sydney are slowly finding some rhythm, while Latrell Mitchell’s return changes the whole shape of their attack.
Everything points to an open, high-scoring contest.
The Rabbitohs are finally starting to look in control
The 36-12 win over Cronulla was probably the Rabbitohs’ most complete performance of the season. It was not just the scoreline that stood out, but the way South Sydney managed the game.
For weeks, the Rabbitohs had been swinging between sharp attacking spells and huge defensive lapses. This time, they were far more composed when it mattered.
Cody Walker set the tempo beautifully, Jye Gray brought real speed around the ruck, and South Sydney spent long stretches squeezing the Sharks back in their own end.
When the Rabbitohs get on the front foot and their play-the-ball is crisp, their attack is a nightmare to contain. Even without Alex Johnston, that left edge can still cut teams open in a flash.
But the big positive was the defence. Holding Cronulla to just 12 points is no small feat given the Sharks’ attacking firepower this season. The edges were more disciplined, the line speed was sharper and the whole outfit finally looked a bit more organised.
And now Latrell Mitchell is back. That changes plenty.
The Dolphins are building real momentum
The Dolphins also come in full of confidence after their thumping 40-12 win over the Bulldogs.
For much of the first half, the game was pretty even. Then the Dolphins’ attack blew the doors off after the turning point. Once they got rolling, they ran Canterbury ragged.
Jamayne Isaako delivered a huge performance with a hat-trick and 24 points all by himself. But beyond the numbers, it is the quality of their attacking transitions that really stands out right now.
When Isaiya Katoa gets moving forward, this side turns nasty in a hurry. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Herbie Farnworth, Jack Bostock and Isaako give them serious pace and punch out wide.
The issue is that they still look far more convincing in open games than in tight, bruising contests. The Dolphins often win by striking quickly, not by shutting teams down.
That is what makes this clash so interesting against South Sydney. If the Rabbitohs enjoy the same share of possession and territory they had against Cronulla, the Dolphins could be under plenty of pressure at the back.
A Magic Round fixture that should bring points
The first meeting between these two sides this season already produced a shootout, with 70 points scored at this same venue.
The Rabbitohs won 40-30, helped by braces from Latrell Mitchell and Campbell Graham. At the other end, Jake Averillo also caused plenty of damage with the ball in hand.
Since then, the Rabbitohs have found more stability and sit nearer the top end of the ladder, while the Dolphins continue to push for their first finals berth.
Even if the Dolphins are listed as the away side, they will have loads of support in the Suncorp stands.
Everything says this will be fast, attacking and wide open for 80 minutes.

Jamayne Isaako (Dolphins) to score a try
Isaako is in blistering attacking form right now and the Dolphins will keep leaning on their outside men in this Magic Round setting. With the space the Rabbitohs can sometimes leave on the edges, this looks like the ideal spot for the Dolphins winger to cross again.

Before we start, a word on our predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on current form, but never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a freak goal… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when something looks nailed on, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, at some point, you will.
- The smart move is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase losses, because that usually ends badly.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking over your day, getting under your skin or putting you under pressure, take a break. If needed, speak to a specialist support group. That is what they are there for.
- In the end, responsibility sits with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is illegal for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast, leading to money problems, family strain and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain English: you cannot use them to demand compensation if a bet loses.
Information can change
A prediction is always based on what we know when it is written. But then a team list changes, a player gets hurt, the weather turns… and the analysis can be out of date in a flash. We cannot be held responsible for that.
